Saving as a high quality WAV gives an 8 bit version!

Hi,

I have a mac running snow leopard and using version 4.3.

When I edit a wav file which sounds great going in, it is saved as an 8 bit file which is distorted, noisy and has dropouts.

I have used the auto settings and manually set the save format and I there is no change. If I save as an MP3, the sound is fine.

What should I do next to check my system?

I would be most grateful for any reply, NCH asked me to send them a file and I am not sure they got it, haven't heard anything anyway.

Now I know it os an 8 bit file, it is something to find out about and fix.
