deleted part at end of MP3 file "returns" after burn to CD

when I delete the end of a mp3 file i have 2 problems;

1. when I look at the file in wondows or Media player the running time of the file seems not to be shorter tham the original file

2. when i burn the new file to a CD the deleted part is burned to the cd as a part with no sound, so the file ends with x seconds of silance.
