Making song tracks a la guitar hero

Hi,

I am trying to write a home program which works like the xbox game Guitar Hero and runs on my PC. I was wondering if Wavepad would help me create song tracks like those that are available on Guitar Hero. i.e. the resultant rock song tracks would have certain guitar notes missing, but those missing notes can be played by hitting some key. Playing the missing guitar notes will be handled by my application program, I just need a way to separate the main song (provided as an mp3 file) from the guitar notes. Can wavepad help me do that?
