This is a feature of your soundcard and OS.

Control Panel > Sounds > Recording... maybe sure playback is ticked.

Note: Vista prevents the option from working with some soundcards.

I am able to record from turntable to computer using wavepad with good results but i cannot hear recording to monitor whilst recording.Deck is a basic SEAL deck .Can anyone please advise me what to do to monitor my recording?

Thanks.

Until Vista wakes up to what a problem this is, try this workaround. Download the Vista compatible trial version of LP Recorder vs 8.8.0 from http://www.cfbsoftware.com/lprecorder/lprecorder.aspx

It is an unlimited time trial but will only record the first 4mins of a track. Select the trial licence, and make sure you tick "simultaneous playback" on opening. Run it in the background while you record with Wavepad or whatever. (I have an Intel MB with on-board sound and even though I have ticked input monitor in the Sound programme I too hear nothing.) LP recorder must have a switch that bypasses the cutdown audio mixer in Vista. I have written to NCH about this as a feature enhancement.

Good luck, Toppydoc
