What is Color lookup table effect?  How to use it?  What is lut file?

Playing back video gets freezing after editing my video.  

After updated to ver. 8.45,  program always freezing, hardly remove mouse, some FX not function.  

I am using video editor making a video movie.  I had done many times already in the past.  However,  recently my program kept freezing.  I hardly to move the mouse and takes long time to close the video editor.  Please let me know what may cause the problem?
