  1. It seems to me clearly that the audio quality in ES is getting more tinny and thus worse and not better. I am using now 5.48 but wanted to upgrade to 5.54 or 5.55, but I can't use it because the audio is so tinny. I wanted to upgrade because the fast speed settings in 5.48 do not work correctly -- the setting for 150% clips off words, for example. The fast speed settings in 5.54/5.55 do work correctly, but I cannot use it because of the audio quality. Does anyone have any information on why the audio is getting more tinny? Changing the bass settings changes the sound but does not make it any less tinny or any better.

  2. I have a new computer with Windows 7 and I've installed ES 5.13 and the Sony plug-in, and some MSV files load but some don't. I've used ES for years on XP, so I'm pretty familiar with the issues, but I can't find anything on this one. Does anyone have any help for this? Thank you.

P.S. I've had the three files that don't load uploaded again, have downloaded them three times, no luck. They do load on my XP.

  3. It seems that in v.5 and the version before that the ability to re-sort files in the LOAD window has completely disappeared. My previous wish was that you could set a default sort option. Now not only can you not do that, but you can't even sort at all. Is there an ability to re-sort files in the LOAD window that I'm missing? Could you please add back in the clickable column headings for sorting? I have sent this as a bug report already.

  4. Probably half a dozen times I've used opportunities given by NCH to make suggestions for future versions of Express Scribe to make just one suggestion. My suggestion has never been implemented. I wonder if others here who read this would want what I've suggested, or if maybe even there is already a way to do this that I just don't know about.

I really need the Load window to remember the way I sort it. I always need it sorted chronologically with the newest files at the top. I never need it any other way. But as far as I know I have to change the sort every time I click to Load, which I do sometimes a dozen times a day. Not only that, but currently when I click to sort it leaves me at the bottom of the list of files, and then I also have to go back up to the top. So it's click to sort chronologically, click again to reverse the order, then go to the top file in the list.

Does anyone know whether there is an option to set a default sort order for Load? If not, would other people find this useful?

    Thanks.

  5. I'll pass your comments on to the developers for you. A simply work around would be to change the fast forward speed to your 200%, and then have your fast speed at 150%.

Thank you very much for forwarding my comments.

I tried the workaround you suggested, but for fast forward you have to hold down the key, you can't just press it, so that won't work.

  6. A few days ago I upgraded to v4.15 from an older version (v4.0something). I have always used the "slow speed" to not actually be slow, because I don't need a slow speed, but to be 150 percent, and high speed to be 200 percent. I use these speeds to proof to audio, 200 percent when I can and 150 percent if 200 is too fast.

I see now in v.4.15 the slow speed will not go past 100 percent.

I understand this was probably considered a "bug" that needed to be fixed.

Could these two speeds be changed to be named just "Alternate speed one" and "Alternate speed two" or something like that?

Please let me know if you do not know what I mean. I used these with hotkeys. F2 was real speed, F3 was 150, F4 was 200, F5 was stop. Now I can only get one speed higher than 100 with a hotkey.

    Thank you.
