  1. Hallo,

I have sent bug-reports about this problem since August 2012 (!) and described in the forum, see here: Express Scribe Pro will not play DS2 files

Since that time I have load the written: DSS File Converter

I used this tool for all incoming ds2 files for two years - it works fine. It is not free of charge but the price is fair.

    With best regards

    Lisa

Thank you Lisa for this link. I have now managed to convert the errant dictation and get it typed. It is a pity though that we have to purchase further software.

  2. I have had this problem again yestereday. The file stopped at 0.57 but the tape went on playing but no sound. The person who recorded it can hear it all the way through. I also tried converting to WAV and MP3 but it did not make any difference. Is there now a fix for this problem?

  3. I have express scribe pro on my PC and express scribe free on my laptop. Most of the files I transcribe are DS2 files which work fine with the pro version but the free version does not recognise them. My question is can I install the pro version on my laptop and if so how? Or do I have to buy it again? Any advice would be welcome as I am unable to work on my laptop at present.

  4. I have also found this problem intermittently with DS2 files. Also am unable to find a anything to convert the files to WAV as they don't seem to be recognised by any of the conversion software.

  5. This exact same thing happened to me. Because my laptop uses Windows 7, I was unable to install Version 4.30, which I use on my Win XP desktop and which has worked perfectly for me for many years. I too was forced to upgrade to the paid version (5.51) for one client that uses the DSS format. Now I have this horrible tinny echo that I have spent the past hour trying to figure out how to get rid of!!

I would be interested to know if anyone else transcribing DSS files using Express Scribe 5.51 has discovered how to get rid of this horrible echo. I've explored internal and external microphone settings, changed all different playback settings within Express Scribe, so many things I can't remember half of what I've done. Not one has made a bit of difference. I'm very disappointed in Express Scribe, having paid to have a version of their software that is almost unbearable to use.

Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

Mrsmac - I have not noticed any echo or change in sound since I upgraded. Most of my dictation comes over in DSS format. It took a while to install my foot pedal but all up and running and find I use more of the hotkeys on keyboard for rewinding and fast forwarding etc. So I have not had any problems - hope you can sort it out.

I don't use earphones though - are you having problems with using them?

  6. I have had to re-download express scribe and find that the free versions runs out after a week and also I get an error message that tells me .DSS format is not supported by Express Scribe . I have been transcribing DSS dictation for many years through Express Scribe free version so cannot understand this message. Can anyone throw some light onto these two problems please?

  7. I have just received a new foot pedal and having installed it it will not work. Do I have to do anything to the settings within Express Scribe to make it work? Such a long time since I installed my old foot pedal which is on the blink.

I have got the pedal working. I found the answer on this forum - I had not changed the port to VEC pedals USB. All well now.

  9. I have been using ExpressScribe for a few years transcribing with the foot pedal.

I have now started using ExpressScribe on my laptop as well but what cannot find is how to turn the (hot) F key function off. The foot pedal is working fine but also the F keys. I use F3 for autotext all the time and instead of the autotext it is slowing down the dictation.

    Can anyone help please?

  10. Change Windows file - I'm afraid you have lost me there. Not sure how to do that.

As for saving it to hard disc and uploading it to Scribe I have already tried and it does not work. Thanks for your reply.

I am now looking at downloading an amr. converter but not sure which one I can trust and if it will work.

Thank you NCHDL. I have now located a converter MIKSOFT MOBILE CONVERTER which has enabled me to convert the amr file to a wav file which I can then download to Expressscribe and transcribe via the foot pedal. So I got there in the end - thank you.

  11. You could change Windows' file associations to always associate Scribe with the relevant file extension, instead of QuickTime player. Alternatively, instead of opening the attachment directly from your email client, try right-clicking on the attachment, saving it to your hard disk, opening Scribe and using File -> "Load Dictation File(s)" to browse to it and load it.

  12. Where are you stuck? Have you found a way to transfer a file from the phone to Express Scribe?

The file was sent to me by email as an attachment from my client's phone. I can then open the attachment and play it but am unable to either save it or load it onto Express Scribe as I do with other attachments, i.e. am unable to play via the foot pedal.

  13. I use Express Scribe every day for for digital transcriptions. One of my clients also wants to send dictation from his mobile phone which uses Quicktime. At present I am unable to find a way to transcribe this via the foot pedal.

How can I get round this?

The other formats I receive are DSS which downloads direct to the Expressscribe and WAV which I have to download to the PC first then download to Expressscribe with no problem.

    Any help/suggestion would be appreciated.

  14. I have been using express scribe for a long time without any problems. I receive dss and wav files, except for some reason the wav files come over as much larger attachments that the dss files with the same number of recorded minutes. Not sure why this is.

Another problem I have encountered today is one dss attachment loads up to 98% and then i get an error message - scribe.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Express scribe shows no dictation. The other one I received today loaded and played without problem.

Any help or suggestions would be welcome.

  15. From in ExpressScribe, click the load button then locate the file you want to load using the Browse for Folder, select the file and click the load button, this will load the files for you.

thank you NCHer. I have now managed to do it and have been able to complete the transcription. Not sure what I did the first time!

  16. I have tried that but it did not seem to work but will try again. Normally with the DSS files I just double click on the attachment in the email and they download automatically.

I am unable to make this work. Is it possible to make the footpedal control the dictation on Windows MEdia Player as that is where it opens automatically.

  18. I use Express Scribe for dictation that comes to me with a DSS extension and they load automatically into ES. I am now received files with the extension WMA and they load straight into Windows Media Player for which I do not have a foot pedal. How do I make these files load into Express Scribe. Any suggestions would be very welcome as I am waiting to transcribe them and do not know how.
