  1. I think I have that combination in my Radio Shack junk box! I'll give it a try. Thanks for the information.

    Did this work for you.

I have ordered an attenuator to try. It will go from speaker to Line in.( then no capture device will be needed for audio) I hope it will work. When I get it to try out.

  2. I have an RCA input that I use to copy old VHS tapes into the PC. But, not a USB. I tried an experiment last night that was somewhat successful. I used a patch cord from the speaker output port over to the Line In port. Then, Line In came alive, and I told it to listen to the speakers. I was able to record the sound from the Internet streaming as I captured it with Debut. However, the sound was tinny and sounded like it was coming from a barrel. I tried to make sure I wasn't using any enhancement or delay features on the speaker side, but so far I have not cleared up that problem.

What I have came up with good audio.

I have the USB capture device. Y-adapter (RadioShack 274-313) in speaker jack, one to speakers and one with 1/8th stereo male to two RCA male cord (RadioShack). The RCA males to USB capture device (audio R-L).

There is audio in the recording now.

SCREEN CAPTURE USE THIS FOR AUDIO ONLY.

  3. since I'm trying to capture streaming video coming in from IE and Internet, is it possible that Debut will not record this sound even though it is capturing the screen perfectly?

I have only done device capture. I will see if I can get an answer to the Screen capture. May take some time.

  4. I have Windows 7 64-bit o/s. I have 2 speakers but nothing else attached to my pc sound card at this time. I can screen capture video using Debut without any problem, but no matter what I do, no sound is recorded. The speakers work perfectly all the time. When I tried the "fix" suggested in this topic, the line-in option was grayed out since nothing was in it. How do I get around this, and make the right sound settings for Debut?

Line in may have a different name. What are you using for the capture device?

  5. Chainsaw, I appreciate your quick reply and help but I'm not sure if it's applicable (my overall understanding of all things computer is rather limited but...) Some files that I can't play on Windows Media for eg. I can "Add" to be burned and Express + Burn immediately decodes them. So, no problem there. As you listed, numerous formats are accepted by Express Burn + and immediately decoded and so it tells me. When adding a file, it first says it's decoding it (if it has to) and then says it's normalizing volume. (Not sure what it's doing there as the end result is still different volume levels over the tracks/files I burned.) However, in trying to outsmart the little devil, I have occasionally highlighted all the tracks, then pressed the Normalize Volume - THEN, and only then, do I get the codec error message.

Have you check in the HELP—Help contents files?

    This is one of them--

If you are playing or converting files with file extension .vox or .raw, these files will require some additional information in order for them to be read first. The Decoder Settings dialog box is where the prompting for information occurs, and it will appear after the Play or Convert buttons have been selected. The dialog box requires input in the following areas:

    Format

Choose the data format of the file from the drop-down list.

    Sample

Choose the sampling rate of the file from the drop-down list, or type in your own value.

    Channels

Choose the number of channels encoded into the file from the drop-down list.

It is important that the selected settings best reflect the internal structure of the file, otherwise the played or converted file may not sound as expected. If you are unsure what settings to use, either use the default settings or feel free to experiment with various combinations. Note that when converting multiple files of type .vox or .raw, you will only be prompted for information on the first file; subsequent files will re-use the settings you specify.

  6. I'm pretty sure the problem occurs whether or not I'm burning mp3's, FLAC or CDa's. Or a combination there of. If I highlight all the tracks to be burned and then press the normalize volume tab I get an error message that says something about not having the "codecs". After that, all files to be burned are corrupt and I have to delete them and re-rip them (and stay away from normalizing) if I want to complete the burn. Arrgh...

    Adding and Removing Files

To add your audio files to the CD click the "Add File" or "Add Folder" button or go to the menu item File -> Add. A Browse window will open and from here you can locate, view and select the following types of audio file formats:

.WAV .MP3 .OGG .WMA .AIF .AIFF .AU .RA .RAM

.FLAC .GSM .AAC .VOX .RAW .SND .DSS .DCT

Some of these formats will automatically download a plugin to decode the selected format. If an internet connection is not available they can be downloaded separately from the NCH website and then installed on the PC in question. Additionally some formats need to be decoded to be added and on slower computers this can take a minute or two.

Many other format can also be handled but they require the installation of directshow codecs. Many come preinstalled with Windows so please try loading the file. You may need to select 'All Files' to see the particular file.

The minimum length of an audio track is 4 seconds so any files shorter than that will be padded with silence to a length of 4 seconds. There is also a mandatory gap between tracks so some media players will list any track as 2 seconds longer than their actual length. This means any padded track will be listed with a length of 6 seconds. The mandatory gap can be overridden when you burn the disc by choosing a different track pause. Please see the burn settingd dialogue for more details.

Any files not of these formats will be ignored by Express Burn when creating an Audio CD. You will need to create a Data CD for any other types.

  7. My OS is Win Vista Home Premium, I'm using the trial version of Debut, and I want to record what I hear from my speakers. I think my configuration is wrong; I previosly had been using my headphones for playback & recording, but the recording didn't work for me with Debut, hence I want to record with my headset, but not via the microphone? I had to change my settings because of that. My sound settings are:

    post-22025-125813746877_thumb.jpg post-22025-125813749013_thumb.jpg

At Debut > Option > Device tab > Audio section, for Sound Devices the choices are:

    [Default Sound In]

Line in [High Definition Audio Device]

    Aux [High Definition Audio Device]

    Microphone [High Definition Audio Device]

    Audio input has these choices:

    Windows Record Mixer

    Master Volume

    What is Record Volume?

With Debut Video capture open and capturing video.

Try is ---- right click on speaker icon—click on Sound---a box will open. Click on recording tab—you should have a line in device. Click on it to select it—at the bottom of box click on set Default---then double click on Line—line properties box will open---click on listen tab—check box listen to this device—set playback drop down box to speakers---click apply at bottom of box –then click OK. Then click OK on sound box. Hope this works for you.

  8. I purchased the Express Burn Plus package online several months ago and have NEVER been able to get the audio sound level equalized over the tracks I add to be burned to a CD-R. According to the online manual I've done what I was suppposed to do; namely, click on "this disc" and set the percentage level. I did this at 100%. I've also tried clicking on the Normalize Volume button and when ripping, a green bar confirms it's "normalizing" but the mix CD-R I end up with still has different volume levels. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

Where is the audio coming from?

    Stereo will have different levels.

  9. Fungus, I had the same problem but I was (and still am) connecting the sound directly into the "line in" on the sound card (integrated in the motherboard). If you have a VIA chipset, navigate to c\program files\VIA\VIAudioi\VDeck\Vdeck.exe. This launches a little control panel for your sound card (I believe this application came on a CD that shipped with the ASUS motherboard). Select "Expert Mode" at the bottom then un-select Speaker Output Mute. You should now hear sound. If you don't have a VIA chipset, dig around for something similar regarding your sound card. Windows sound control panel won't have what you need. Check the web site of your soundcard manufacturer for some type of config utility. Good luck.

With Debut Video capture open and capturing video.

Try is ---- right click on speaker icon—click on Sound---a box will open. Click on recording tab—you should have a line USB 2861 device. Click on it to select it—at the bottom of box click on set Default---then double click on Line—line properties box will open---click on listen tab—check box listen to this device—set playback drop down box to speakers---click apply at bottom of box –then click OK. Then click OK on sound box. Hope this works for you.

  10. Edit on 16 August 2009: This is an interesting forum, 394 reads and not a single reply. Maybe I have a difficult problem.

    Hello:

I'm new to using Debut and need a little help.

I downloaded Debut to try it out. My purpose is to record audio & video from a VHS tape deck and save it as mpg2 so I can burn the program to a DVD-R disc.

The "Composite-to-USB" adapter I have is called "EasyCap" and has red & white ports for audio, a yellow port for video, and a black "S" video port. The output side has an USB port that I connect to the computer.

I did some testing and I can get decent recordings with this system.

My problem is that I cannot hear any audio during preview, when setting up the recording. I also do not hear audio during recording (however I can see VU meter display of the audio during record). Playback of the recorded program does have good audio.

How do I enable audio to be heard during preview and recording?

The AV to USB adapter had some bundled software called EasyCAP that does let me hear audio however that software is very difficult to figure out and I'd prefer to use Debut if possible.

    Thanks,

    Fungus
