  1. For anyone having problems with Express Scribe version 5.0 in Windows 7 regarding audio codecs, simply go to the following web site address and download the TrueSpeech Codec installer. I downloaded it to my desktop and simply opened a sound file in wav format in Express Scribe and it works!

My initial problem was only that I bought a new Gateway computer with Windows 7 and Express Scribe would not play simple wav files. I searched high and low for a solution regarding codecs and finally found it on the Bytescribe web site of all places. Prior to this I attempted to convert files as well amongst other things and nothing seemed to work. I'll be glad to go into further detail if anyone needs assistance.

I love my new computer and Windows 7 is okay so far as well.

OMG! I wish to thank you so much for this wonderful solution. I was about to uninstall win7 just because it wouldn't play those wav files... but you just saved me! Now let me enjoy win7 some more... thanks so much again! you just made my new year! ;)

  2. Express Scribe for OS X cannot load DSS files. Use a Windows program like Switch to convert them to a format that does work (like MP3).

There are many possible codecs for WAV files. Some work on OS X, many are Windows-only. Use a program like MediaInfo to work out which codec(s) is/are being used.

thanks for the reply.. i'll go check it out! ^_^

  3. With express scribe ver. 4.30 installed on my virtual machine on Windows XP SP3, all my audio transcription files work flawlessly. No problems whatsoever...

But on my Mac OS X 10.5.6, no audio seems to work with express scribe v4.30 Intel... I work with wav and dss files and I really can't get it to work.. It says I need codecs or something. See screenshots below.

For the .dss error, I get this:

    And for the .wav error:

I hope someone can tell me what to do to get it to work with Mac OS X.. I'm feeling desperate really! :(
