These are terms which are essential to understand if one is to use WavePad successfully for music editing. In particular, I use music editing software (I noticed that you mention Amadeus II for the Mac) to process large sound files which may consist of many _unrelated_ musical selections or, in other cases, may contain different movements of a classical music selection, which need to be separted and identified separately for further processing. It is in performing these music editing tasks that the notions of "regions" and the use of bookmarks to keep all of this business straight is virtually essential.

I of course understand that there are numerous sound editing tasks which perhaps do not require the understanding of these (basic, in _my_ opinion) editing tasks.

thank you very much for your kind and very easy to understand replay/explanation about region and bookmark. since i'm also a very music (listener) lover, you almost give me the vision on how to cut different part of one song to be sewed later in a different way, though kept together with a particular "region". or maybe i have not understood anything...:-(

anyway you're giving me the will to try something different. thanks, i'll keep you update (don't worry, its always the same beginner will...:-)

your philosophy is probably right and easy to understand. anyway, just to clarify a little bit (and, be sure :-) no more than 1 time), i'll say that, though i'm using audio software for vlf radiowaves research since 1993, words such as "regions" or "bookmarks" are unknown to me, at the moment, in this field.

moreover just say how different any of us experience may be especially regarding what *you* have to do, i am using the mac since 1997 with soundedit, macthescope, amadeus II and pro, spectrafoo, signalscope pro and some more. still searching for something new and (hopefully) better, even to be proposed to other friends and collegues in our worldwide association (The Inspire Project) and journal, for the mac area, of course.

so far i have to say that the best suited for the vlf purpose is probably "spectrumlab" a freeware from a german ham, for win pc only.

maybe spectrumlab lacks a lot of very important features for the music or other audio fields but, as i said before, it depends on what *you* need to do. i do not see any vlf related software in the mac community, so i have to look for in different roads in order to realize the products who better fit with our needs.

anyway, since i'm not an english language guy, i may have misunderstood your meaning. i'm sorry about that.

i'd like take this opportunity to suggest (if i may) to the wavepad people to better clarify the difference between the 2 edition in the wavepad web pages directly. from my perspective potentially buyers will find that explanation useful.

I find it very difficult to imagine how one who is doing anything at least half-way serious can find any utility with a "special" version of WavePad in which the batch file processor, bookmarks, and regions have deliberately been removed so that it can be offered at no cost and continue to "work" forever (i.e., after an initial trial period)!!

 

Perhaps your "workflow" can tolerate this forever lack of essential features. After you answer this question, you may confirm my oft-repeated claim that "The best things in (software) life are not free".

 

In other words, don't waste your time just for the sake of claiming that you somehow scored a coup and got it free. Pay up, save a lot of aggravation, and get something which has utility beyond an initial short trial period (two weeks) during which all features designed into the licensed version are fully operational.

and thanks for your suggestion. In the Help pages I found this one:

"A number of professional tools for WavePad are only available if you have purchased an upgrade to WavePad Master's Edition. These features include the batch file processor, keyboard macros, projects, bookmarks, regions and the region assembler."

So I finally understood the points between the 2s and will try to realize what they mean in my workflow.

The special free version you can download from the product home page is entirely freeware. It will never expire and you can use it free forever. Just make sure to download the free version.

 

We make it free in the hope more professional or business users will upgrade to the Masters Edition version which is the one we normally sell. The Masters Edition version has a few more features with the professional in mind (check the Help manual of that version to see the additional features).

you're right or, if you prefer, i agree completely. there is no substitute to logic and c.s.

my logic and c.s. say that since i do not read any difference between the 2s, i will go on with the freeware. :-)

in the same time i'll try to discover any difference may arise (even beyond the c.s.- as q. m. is suggesting us)

Has it occurred to you that you might not be able both to obtain (by a legal download) a free piece of software which is also advertised (from the very same company) at a reasonable license price, with both pieces of software having the identical set of operating features?

 

If not, then you might stop to think back, through all of your past experiences, when such a situation has presented itself to you :-)

 

Now that you have thought about it (for a fraction of a second, I presume), you may have some different thoughts on the matter.

 

There is no substitute for logic and common sense--as brutal as this thinking process may sometimes may be!!!

i've downloaded wavepad 3.1.4 and i'm trying to realize if and how it may be useful for the vlf radio analysis. since it does not show "master" on the label, i suppose it is the free version. please can you tell me where i can read detailed differences between the 2 software?

i use a powerbook 1.67 ghz with OS X 10.4.11.
