  1. Sounds like the file might not have been saved on the server as a WAV, for example, it could be an MP3 that was saved with a WAV extension without being decoded first. Try saving the file first, then look at the file properties. I've had that happen before - I'd find some sound effects out there that were supposedly WAV files, but ended up being a different file type.

Also, what OS are you using?

  2. M,

that is NOT what is happening...

when you click on "NO" the program EXITS.

I got around this by doing the following.

Go to control panel > add/remove programs > uninstall wavepad.

When you uninstall it, the program will ask you if you want to UNINSTALL, or just STRIP the program of the NON-free features.

Click on this, and it will reduce Wavepad to the free version

I had to do the same thing, for the same reason. Using version 4.03.

  3. The workaround is plugging an audio cable from speaker/headphone jack to the mic jack. That only produces low, barely audible recordings no matter how much I crank the playback audio settings.

The other problem with doing that is that you only get a mono recording if you use the mic input, to get a stereo recording, you would need to use a stereo line input, which you stated wasn't an option since your sound card doesn't have one of those. The only other option I can suggest is to look into getting a USB multi-channel sound card, for example, the Maya 44 USB. When you plug that card in and install it, you can make it override the PC's built-in sound card so you should be able to use that to "record what you hear". I have an HP Pavilion and I have no problems doing the "record what you hear" thing, then again, I most likely have a sound card that is capable of doing that.

  4. Where is the Windows Recording mixer? In Wavepad or part of the Windows control panel?

If you have a speaker icon in your system tray, right-click on it and click "Adjust Audio Properties", if not, go to the Control Panel->Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices->Sounds and Audio Devices. Once there, click the Audio tab and under Sound Recording, click the Volume button. You should have at least four channels along with a Master Record slider - make sure the Stereo Mix channel has a check in the "Select" check box. This should allow you to "record what you hear".

  5. Well, after doing an uninstall and reinstall, I was able to work with one file, then it started hanging again. However, I found that this issue looks like it stems from using the menu pane on the left side of the window, I was using that to do most of the commands, once the program hang when I simply tried to collapse the Bookmarks section. I closed that pane and used the icons and menu bar on top instead, works fine that way. Weird....

  6. Hi, I'm testing out the free version of WavePad, I found it through a Google search, I'm trying to use it to make ring-tone size files.

My problem is, after copying and pasting a sample of an audio file into a new audio file, I try to save the new file and the program hangs, I have to shut it down with the Task Manager and I lose the new file I tried to create. The task manager also indicates that WavePad is pegging my CPU.

I would like to get the master version of this program, but I can't see paying for a program that doesn't work properly. The first few times I did what I described it worked fine, then I started having this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm running version 4.03 on XP with SP3, 1 GB RAM.

    * EDIT * for additional info:

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, that seemed to fix the problem, I'll post again if it happens again.
