  1. Is there a problem with installing Switch v 1.43 on Windows 2000? I can't make "open output folder" work right. I get the error message

    Cannot open folder "" because it is not a valid folder.

    Thanks,

    Kaymac (newbie to forum experienced computer user and programmer)

    There is a compatibility problem between Win 2000 and Switch re: opening output folders. NCH told me it would be fixed in a future release. My work-around is to put a copy of the file I want to convert into the desired output folder and let Switch do the conversion and default to that folder.

  2. Using Mac OSX 10.4, Safari will download a YouTube vid, but it is coming as an .html file, and says it is an Application. I've tried changing the suffix to .flv, .wma, and .wmv, but it still does not "take." I want only the sound, as an MP3, so I downloaded Switch and the Flip4Mac, but to no avail. Switch says it cannot read the file, perhaps it is not supported. So I need to know how to make the YouTube file convertable. Help! Peggy

    I know of a couple of methods to achieve what you want, but first, have you considered that what you are downloading may actually be an html file and not the video that you want?

    One simple method would be to visit this site http://www.sothinkmedia.com/guide/download-video.htm and download a plug-in for Firefox that will download video as flv files. The same site has links to software that will convert flv to mpg or whatever else. Then you can use Switch to make the final conversion to mp3.

    Alternatively you can use the procedure given below based upon - http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2008/04/d...-mp4-files.html The terminology used below is for Windows machines but there is equivalent functionality for MAC

    http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=...TURE&fmt=18

    is the model URL for ripping youtube videos

    Example:

    Louis Armstrong and Velma Middleton - St. Louis Blues http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nwHdvxEDaU

    Load the video and then "View source" - look for video_id parameter and t (SIGNATURE) parameter.

    Searching for the First reference to video_id found the following

    var swfArgs = {"vq": null, "video_id": "9nwHdvxEDaU", "l": 375, "sk": "LkEVTlk0wNbMtGMQNje4LE8YKiNnXBHYC",

    "fmt_map": "", "t": "OEgsToPDskJ9GP6D-8e-GudR3QuBTFlr", "hl": "en", "plid": "AARV2PhH6DBLNE4YAAAAqAAwABg"};

    Here ID is 9nwHdvxEDaU and t (SIGNATURE) is OEgsToPDskJ9GP6D-8e-GudR3QuBTFlr

    Create a "shortcut" to

    http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=...TURE&fmt=18

    and substitute 9nwHdvxEDaU for ID and OEgsToPDskJ9GP6D-8e-GudR3QuBTFlr for SIGNATURE

    click on the shortcut and save the video as an MP4 file under a name of your choosing. The use Switch to convert the mp4 to an mp3.

    Good luck.

  3. Hello Raceww,

    Could you please...

    1 - Confirm again that you are using Switch v1.42

    2 - Confirm what operating system you are using

    3 - See the picture I've PM'd you, and notice the 320pixel wide drop down box, labeled "Output Folder"

    Please respond back with your findings, as it could be that the application is experiencing some undocumented formatting issues with your OS / graphic kernal combination.

    - Michael @ NCH

    ====================================

    Hello,

    1. When I click on Help - About a pop-up window shows "Switch v 1.42"

    2. I am using Windows 2000 with all updates installed.

    3. There is no textbox/dropdownbox at all next to the words "Output Folder". I do see it in your screen-shot, of course.

  4. I just installed Switch Plus v 1.42. The documentation implies that there is a text box in which I can specify the output folder. There is no text box. When I click on the Browse button a browse window is opened and I can select a folder but when the browse window is closed no folder has been specified. Any attempt to convert a file results in an error message saying that the output folder is "".

    I have been using the free version of Switch with no problem for over a year but am new to this version (v 1.42). Is there something I am doing incorrectly? It appears that Switch is simply missing the text box and that is causing the code that picks up a folder from the browse window to fail.
