  1. The problem's obviously not with the foot pedals then.

Could it be a problem with your sound drivers? Have you tried running Windows Update, or does the sound card (or motherboard, if it's on-board) manufacturer have updated drivers available on their website?

Thank you for the response. I went to Dell's website and downloaded all updates, etc. I finally called Dell, which I should have done a long time ago as I have spent countless hours on this. Dell fixed the problem in less than 20 seconds. After I explained that ES is locking up, he clicked on the speaker icon on the bottom right of my screen. From there he accessed, not necessarily in this order, Playback - Speaker Properties - Enhancements. Then he checked the box that said Disable Sound Effects (you want to DISABLE the sound effects). This fixed the problem immediately.

Thank you again for your help.

  2. What happens if you use the mouse or keyboard short-cuts instead of the foot pedal?

As soon as I press any hot key, it locks up again for several minutes. Even using the mouse and pressing the arrow/play button locks it up immediately. The error message that continues to pop up after it finally unlocks is the ... "Please check that your audio hardware is functioning correctly... Options - Playback - 'Sound Device' has been correctly configured." I checked the foot pedal configuration and and it does work using the with Rewind, Play, and FF keys with the foot pedal. I also have tried the three different speaker options and everything continues to happen as above.

    Thanks.

  3. Express Scribe (newest version) is not responding in our new computer with Windows 7. The issues are: The foot pedal does not advance the Welcome or a downloaded recording (although I have checked and the **computer** is recognizing my foot pedal). In ES, when I go to "Pedals" under Options to do a pedal setup there, I get a "Controller Setup Wizard - Connect Controller" screen with instructions. In addition, when trying to play any sound file with the foot pedal, ES locks up (Not Responding). I also get a message "Playback Failed" with instructions to check Options - Playback - Sound Device. To try to repair this, I have used the Compatibility Tab to set to a different version of Windows, I have uninstalled and reinstalled ES, and I have downloaded the Codec fix mentioned on this website. Any suggestions? Thank you.

  4. I changed computers and downloaded Express Scribe to the new one. Now when I use the foot pedal, I have to press it twice to stop and twice to start. It is really affecting my productivity. I have tried to download older versions of Express Scribe to see if it is simply the newest version that does this, but all downloads end up downloading the newest version of Express Scribe. I have even tried a different foot pedal and it is not the problem. I am accustomed to holding down the foot pedal and taking my foot off of it when I want the dictation to stop!

    Thanks for any help.
