Wavepad after 14 days ? how to use "free" Wavepad ?

I was pointed to WavePad by a friend. It was recommended highly.

Downloaded and used it with the first 14 days having the Master's Edition forced upon me. Documentation says after 14 days Master's will go away and Wavepad is free.

14 days have passed and I expect to now be able to try just WavePad to see what the difference is. Unfortunately, when starting WavePad it says it has expired and forces me to the Register Software dialog and pops up a browser for me to pay for the Master's Edition. None of the buttons on the dialog box are of any use unless of course you want to fork over payment. I can't seem to get it to fall back to just Wavepad.

4 buttons, purchase online, register, cancel and Help, only logical choice is cancel and this just closes the application. Seems to me like it is time to uninstall this software and move on to another product as this is doing its best to force me into the not so free version.

Any suggestions on how can actually use the "free" Wavepad ?

Sometimes I'd not hesitate to just pay for the software but this software's brutal misuse of the pause and stop buttons has me on the fence. I am amazed that something which has a lot of great features has this fundamental flaw. Never the less, I am looking to continue to use the "free" version until I decide if I want to stick with it but can't for the life of me figure out how to do this.

On www.nch.com.au/wavepad:

"Download WavePad" -> Free version

"Download Masters" -> Paid version

Simply install the right one over the top of your current installation.

Thank you, this worked, after it opened the purchase page twice :-(

What's wrong with the pause and stop buttons?

I don't see any pause specific button at all ? am I missing something ? in most standard implementations since the dawn of man there is a button with a "pause" symbol on it, something like this "||". The square stop button does about what I expect a pause button to do but I find it completely contrary to any audio equipment or software I've ever used. There is a button with a pause and a play arrow and some arrows on it which when I click does something but when I click again expecting it to unpause it seems to be sticky/stuck. The flyover text says "Scrub (space)", what does this mean ? I'll note there is no help button on this dialog either. Look at any stereo equipment, there is a play button, a pause button and a stop. They have very specific functionality which is standard and implemented most everywhwere. If you want to add better functionality, great but don't mess with the basics.

I will have to play with it some more now that I have wavepad functioning again. It almost looks like if I figure out the "Scrub" button I will get what I am looking for.

  • 1 month later...

I'm also having trouble getting it to work after 14 days.

When I open a file, it seems to load ok, but when I hit the play (F9) button, the button lights up, but nothing happens. I can hit the Stop, Record & Play buttons etc... they all light up indicating that they've been pressed, but it doesn't play. The time line doesn't scroll, there is not movement.

What am I missing?
