How can I use the pan and zoom video effect, or at least make it smoothly zoom in instead of all at once?

So I was editing a really big video, and it had a lot of splits in it. But then, out of the blue, I can't play the edited tracks anymore. I can only view the raw file. I don't know if this is something I am plainly missing, but can someone answer me on this?
