Groups of notes no longer barring

Hello,

For some reason, when I put in a group of e.g. quavers, the are no longer tying together. Any help appreciated. I am very new to Notation software.

I posted this question before but have had no replies. My question is: why, when I enter a group of say four quavers, do they no longer bar together? Instead they appear as four individual quavers. This suddenly started to happen in the middle of writing a score. 

Can anybody help? I can find no mention of this on any of the help pages.

Try a reinstall of the program...after saving your work, of course.
