fragil
As a temporary solution/workaround (which works on my outdated Win98SE), do the following (use at your own risk!): [1] The file "mpcdec.exe" you currently (20071205) download from http://www.nch.com.au/components/mpcdec.exe is the commandline version of the mpc decoder (and not(!) packed into the usual setup program you get with the other de-/encoders from the above directory) [2] Simply put "mpcdec.exe" to the self created C:\<<Program Files>>\NCH Software\Components\mpcdec directory, where you: IMPORTANT: replace "<<Program Files>>" with the correct name for the "Program Folder" on C:\ which applies to your localized version of Windows! (In the german version i.e. it's called "Programme") [3] Open a text editor (and by text editor i'm not talking about MS Word or the like - simply use "notepad"!) and copy and paste the following content (between the "snips") to the text file: ----- snip ----- REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NCH Software\Components\mpcdec] "Path"="C:\\<<Program Files>>\\NCH Software\\Components\\mpcdec\\mpcdec.exe" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NCH Swift Sound\Components\mpcdec] "Path"="C:\\<<Program Files>>\\NCH Software\\Components\\mpcdec\\mpcdec.exe" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NCH Software\Components\mpcdec] "Path"="C:\\<<Program Files>>\\NCH Software\\Components\\mpcdec\\mpcdec.exe" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\NCH Swift Sound\Components\mpcdec] "Path"="C:\\<<Program Files>>\\NCH Software\\Components\\mpcdec\\mpcdec.exe" ----- snip ----- AGAIN: replace "<<Program Files>>" with the appropriate name for your "Program Files" folder on the C:\ drive here! Now save the edited file as "mpcdec.reg", then double-click on the saved file. Windows should ask you, if you want to save the above entries to it's registry, which you need to confirm. (Btw, I don't know whether really all entries are necessary, but it works (at least) for me!) [4] Perhaps a relogin or restart of Windows might be needed now, since i don't know how the registry keys are read/updated by the system. Someone may confirm this ...? [5] Now start the "Switch" executable. If you choose "Audio Files" (the default) for file types in the file/directory dialog, the *.mpc files will not appear. This is due to the current limitations of the application, which is simply missing the ".mpc" extension, dear programmers You need to choose "All Files" from the file types selector to see your *.mpc files. "Switch" (v1.29) itself will issue a warning that the codec might not be installed after choosing some *.mpc files - which you can simply ignore. Now start the conversion and see if it works for you. I assume that this will work at least with WinXP too ... Someone can confirm this for XP ...?? .. or other WinOSs too [6] The programmer's only info: Same procedure works for me with "Express Burner" (v4.05) which also doesn't handle *.mpc files with the "Audio Files" selection. i guess we'll soon see a v4.06 and v1.29 respectively ... and perhaps an "Express Rip" v1.46 which allows encoding of "mpc" files ...and, sorry for my bad english too PS: This should also apply to this article: http://nch.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=7996 Hi, I have tried to convert mpc to mp3 with swift, but it didn't work...
