Blacked out clips

I uploaded my video last night and it was viewing fine. Now, I want to edit something. I opened my project and some of the clips are blacked out. And If I attempt to change an effect on others, they black out or disappear. This happens on the video track 1 and 2. There are only two tracks.

This just started happening when I went from shooting HD to 4k with a new DSLR. Everything is bogged down. Do I just need a faster processor? I have a 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz   2.80 GHz

Your system seems capable.  What version of Videopad is being used (look at the bottom-left of the window) and what is the PC's GPU (graphics) adapter?

Try this...  Go to OPTIONS | ADVANCED (or EDITING in older versions) and in the bottom GPU area change default to None (CPU only).  Any better?

Install the latest release.  For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date.  After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest.  Retain your old install file and registration info.

And for protection, Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves.  Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite.  From the HOME tab, that choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar.

Changed it to CPU only and downloaded the latest release. I just did a test. I have a green screen clip that when I scale it, the entire clip goes grey and doesn't show in the sequence preview. I need to be able to do multiple effects to one clip.

I went out and bought a bigger desktop with the latest NVDIA, processor and lots of space. It'll arrive tomorrow. It was taking FOREVER for the clips to update and made editing a big pain anyway.

You do not mention what the GPU is in your current system.  But that indeed could make a difference.  If there are choices other than default and None in the GPU drop-down, try those as well.

Hope the new box improves things.  Use the 64-bit version of Videopad, and check in with your results.

Take a minute to upload the project and we'll take a look.  It's not difficult and can be private.  Just follow these steps closely...

  •     Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left.  Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER.  Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
  •     Upload ---  Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER.    Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file.
  •     Get link --- Get a public link.  If using Google Drive click GET SHAREABLE LINK. If necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view"
  •     Share ---     Click COPY LINK | DONE.  Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me.  It won't be shared.

          *    Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES.  Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.
