What audio effect do I need to apply to match two different volume levels?

Recommended Posts

Hi there, looked around briefly and I didn't see anything related to this yet. Apologies if this has been covered before.

I have an audio clip that I'd like to fade in to a specific volume and then after 20 seconds, fade down to a lower volume. I know that I can split the audio track into two parts so that one is at one volume and the other is at another. What effect would I need to apply in order for the the higher volume clip to decrease in volume to match the lower volume one? It doesn't seem like I could crossfade or fade out; would a negative amplify do the trick? Any advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Double-click a clip's audio track and a waveform will appear in the clip preview window.  Click the blue line and drag up for higher volume, down for lower - creating a plot.

In this example audio begins at zero, quickly rises to 100%.  Then it lowers slowly and, finally, rises slowly back to 100% 'til the end of the clip.

To delete a keyframe, right-click on it and Remove This Fade Point.

Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves.  Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite.  From the HOME tab, that choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar.
