Russ Croucher
I've been doing software for 40 years and one thing I've learned is we make great improvements usually at the cost of other bugs. That is why I keep a copy of every version I receive. I ran into a problem with the transition effect using a cross fade transition. The problem also occur with other transitions like swipe from left to right, but did not like the result. So I have included the project file along with all the raw files with the transitions. I made sure the project file was version 11 so it can be loaded with both old and new versions of video pad. Here is the link: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AuSetTxgq7JxqbsZqQD4rfyDaPbimg?e=TMkXLN I did a binary search on all the versions that I have to figure out what version last worked with this project. I came up with version 10.06 dated January 19, 2021. The cross fade transition works beautifully. There appears to be two bugs and I have a flickering problem that showed up in version 10.36 dated May 1, 2021. The latest version 12.33 has both a green flicker in the cross fade seems to work below the flickering. The reason I think this problem has never surfaced is because in the dual screen of video pad it works fine. It's only in the creation of the MP4 where you notice the problem. That's what makes the problem so frustrating is when you're in video pad and play everything looks great. But when you create an MP4 you see the flicker. I have not yet tried other output file formats. Thoughts?
borate
Using 32-bit 12.33, the transitions are normal on that project here - no green, no flicker - at suggested export settings. Several transitions had to be reprogrammed - turned off, then reinstated - in order to work correctly. Here's a link to the export.
Russ Croucher
Okay I'm totally frustrated. I'm using 64-bit 12.33 Windows 10 and Windows 7 and occurs at 29 seconds into the MP4 file with video pad not loaded. I noticed your videos and they work great which is what I noticed with version 10.06. I don't know what to do. I have tried with old Windows media player, new Windows 10 film and TV player, and VLC with Windows 7. They all seem to do it. I have actually loaded the same video into Facebook and it also does it. Can you play my 12.33 version see what it does?
borate
The original, exported in v12.33, has transition issues - though it makes it through the one at about :29 and no flicker or green is seen anywhere. Suggest that you delete the trans and reinstate it. That was the fix on the others.
Russ Croucher
What OS are you running it on? Windows 10, Windows 11, Mac OS? I'm trying to figure out the green flicker but I did not delete the temp files without help you think? It looks perfect inside of video pad. borate
That was W11. Also tested your original VPJ (prior to trans fixes) on a low-end W10 I3 laptop running v12.28. Same export result; no hint of green or flicker. No harm in deleting temp/cache files. Try disabling GPU under OPTIONS | ADVANCED | Video Processor. Are the video driver and Direct-X current? Russ Croucher
I think we figured out the problem with your help. It appears to be the GPU is turned on or set to default. When I explicitly turn it off it works 100%. Now what do I do I must need to update my graphics driver somehow is that right? It's nice to see it's not a software bug but a hardware problem that we can fix.
borate
There have been some reports of VP issues with certain cards. What are you running? Confirming that the drivers are current is wise. The default setting is used here.
Russ Croucher
Most of my workstations are using a simple K620 Quadro card. Years ago I did a lot of GPU Quadro coding and maybe I want to run my old software once in a while. I could look to see if I have something else in some of the other computers. Russ Croucher
One comment for future reference. Video pad does not use any GPU at all and is turned off inside video pad. The video was perfect inside of video pad and it wasn't until I turned off the encoding with tools the actual MP4 completely worked fine. Personally I don't care if it's a little slower because I have so many workstations.
topshot
16.34 also has this issue using K1000 Quadro (old Thinkpad W530). However, in my case turning off GPU then caused the audio to not sync properly near the end. Think I may return to Videopad 8.97.
borate
This may be a different issue than the one discussed above. Submit the project for analysis, and some one will check it out. The process is easy, quick and can be done privately. Just follow these steps... Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left. Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER. Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER. Upload --- Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER. Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file. Get link --- Get a public link. Right-click the file and click SHARE. When using Google Drive, if necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view" Share --- Click COPY LINK | DONE. Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me. It won't be shared. * Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES. Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.
topshot
Perhaps, but between this and the export file size issue I also have it's simpler to go back to what I know worked in the past than uploading a 20 GB project.
borate
After saving, delete a large portion of the project and submit the balance - if it has the issues. Five GB or so should do the job, which can then be compared with your result.
topshot
I did some more testing and discovered the audio sync issue was also present if using the GPU unless I went to at least Medium (20000) bitrate, which I had originally. Without GPU I had to use at least 25000 bitrate, which meant selecting either Default or High. Medium (20000) still had it though not as much. However, those high bitrates also caused much bigger files, of course. I don't understand why I get acceptable video/audio results from really old versions using bitrate of 5000-7000. borate
Share an export of one of your old efforts, created with 5000-7000 bitrate. Just upload to a server, get a public (shared) link and post it here.
