Slow Exporting

Good day all,

I have been using VideoPad for approximately a 2 years now for editing down my Twitch streams (at an average of 2 hours) into 20-30 minute 1080p MP4 videos at 30FPS which I then upload to YouTube.

I've had 6 months away from Twitch and YouTube as I was moving home so didn't have my PC setup. In the last 2 weeks I have returned my usual routine but VideoPad is exporting these 20-30 minute videos very slowly. Previously each 20-30 minute video would take a couple of minutes to export, 5 minutes tops, but now it's taking 45 minutes to an hour to export each video. Also, this time is if I have only VideoPad on and leave it to do what it needs to do, if I'm playing something in the background or watching something it takes even longer.

I've not had this issue before so I can't imagine it's my PC specs not being up to scratch with the software, I haven't changed any settings in VideoPad so I'm at a bit of a loose end with it.

Any suggestions and help would be really appreciated as it's taking too long to produce videos, and I can also provide my PC specs if needed!

All the best, Jack.

Hints at a PC resource issue.  VP has gotten faster, not slower, over the past years.  This could be a YT issue.

Some tips.

  • Use the 64-bit VP release if yours is a lengthy, UHD, complex project.  For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date.  After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest.  Retain your old installer and registration info.
  • Close Videopad.  Relaunch - but before loading anything - go to OPTIONS | DISK tab and Clear Unused Cache Files.  Close and relaunch.
  • Close other programs while editing and exporting.
  • Don't load files/clips that won't be actively used in the project.
  • Clean Windows files.  In the Windows search box type "clean files."

If you take a few minutes to share a timed-export project, we can compare it here.  Just follow the steps below carefully.

What are your export settings?  What are the PC's specs:  CPU/GPU/RAM?

  •     Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left.  Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER.  Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
  •     Upload ---  Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER.    Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file.
  •     Get link --- Get a public link.  If using Google Drive click GET SHAREABLE LINK. If necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view"
  •     Share ---     Click COPY LINK | DONE.  Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me.  It won't be shared.

          *    Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES.  Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.

Hi There,

Thank you for your response. My PC specs are as follows:

  • CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-8100 CPU @ 3.60GHz   3.60 GHz
  • RAM: 8.00 GB (7.87 GB usable)
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 & Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630.

Please also find the Google Drive link for the steps I followed above: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1ZvzTl7vSbogVT90YcmirBFzswb_MeUrH?usp=sharing

Thanks for sharing.  An i3 isn't going to be swift for video editing.

With an i7 and an SSD here, your project took about five minutes to fully cache and thirty seconds to export, using suggested settings.

On an i3 with a conventional drive, that slowed to about 11:30 to cache and 36 seconds to export.  On the first attempt, VP hung.  The second succeeded.

The i7 test was made with the 32-bit version;  the i3 with the 64-bit (recommended), which is often faster.

Export usually can be initiated and will progress even if clip caching has not completed.

Thank you for your help - those times you've shared sound a lot more inline with how it used to be a few months back. I think I may uninstall and re-install as I think some settings may have changed, making it slower somehow. I've had the i3 for a few years and VideoPad has never ran this slow.

Thank you so much for your help!
