Export freezes

This is super frustrating. This is already the second strange error I face within the same project. And I am just getting started with VideoPad. Should I change to Adobe Premiere?

After finishing my project, it freezes during the export at exactly the same position, every time I try. It's also not possible to stop it, because then it freezes and crashes the whole application. WTF?

What are the PC's specs:   CPU/GPU/RAM?

Back up your work.  Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves.  Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite.  From the HOME tab, that choice is available by clicking the caret to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar.

Then close the program, relaunch it and go to OPTIONS | DISK tab.  Clear Unused Cache Files.

VideoPad has been known to crash due to problems with older graphics card drivers. If you are experiencing frequent crashes then you should download and install the latest drivers for your graphics hardware and update to the latest version of DirectX.

Yet another test you can make is to open OPTIONS | ADVANCED tab and in the bottom GPU Video Processor area click the caret and choose None | CPU only.  image.png

Most problems are quickly addressed by working with folks here.  To let them see what you see, take a few minutes to share the project.

Please follow the instructions in your other thread and we'll take a look.  And install the latest 64-bit release if you haven't already.

The system looks to be very capable.  But your link is only to the VPJ control file.  What's needed is a folder that contains it + all the source files.

Just follow these steps and we'll check it out...

  •     Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left.  Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER.  Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
  •     Upload ---  Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER.    Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file.
  •     Get link --- Get a public link.  If using Google Drive click GET SHAREABLE LINK. If necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view"
  •     Share ---     Click COPY LINK | DONE.  Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me.  It won't be shared.

          *    Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES.  Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.

Thanks for sharing.  In several tests no export freezing was detected in version 12.28(64).

However, the laptop and joy-selling files are corrupt and would not export.  This was confirmed with another NLE.  Laptop was pure distortion;  joy crashed.

See your Personal Message for a revised project ZIP file, where those files have been repaired.  Download, unzip, then run the VPJ to load it.

Thank you for your efforts.

  • I downloaded the project you shared and tried to export.
  • It freezes around 51s-53s, as it did before.
  • If I remove the static image at that time and try to export again, it freezes around 46s
    • Which then also I would assume that the corrupt video files are not the cause, because this is not where it crashes?
  • I tried clearing the cache
  • I tried CPU as video processor
  • I tried to remove the transition around 52s
  • It keeps freezing

Didn't note earlier that the Blue file was missing when the project linked for you was exported.  Tested on another low-end PC, your export freeze at that clip was replicated.

Blue is yet another file that most apps can't read correctly.  Another NLE and several viewers report that they could not display it:  "unknown codec."  What's the source of those files?

This has been fixed in the new link in the Personal Message Folder.  It now exports cleanly on both tested machines here.

If you still have issues, the completed export will be made available for you.  Request it here.
