How can I connect using SFTP

I run a VPS server using the username root. I've been trying to use Classic FTP to connect to my VPS but I can't seem to make a connection. Can someone please help?

Sadly, none of the NCH Software programs are certified to work in Virtual environments, this includes the virtual server.

You may want to test the program connecting to a regular server and if the issue remains, contact the NCH Software support team.

let me see if I understand this correctly

 

you have a vps and you want to use classic ftp to connect to the vps from your desktop machine.

if the above is correct , you need to make sure that the ftp service has been started on your vps,
