I just spent a few hours putting clips and audio together, but when I tried to export it I couldn't. Is there any way before I have to do it all again on something different?

Try exporting in AVI format.  Assuming that you did not purchase, install the free version, or the normal release.  That will be a trial unless you license it.

Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves.  Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite.  From the HOME tab, that choice is available by clicking the chevron to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar.  That way the project is protected.
