Audio noise removal

Hello! I usually remove noise by grabbing noise sample from a selected area and then apply a spectral subtraction based on noise sample. I have been quite satisfied, but often there's a recurrent problem when it is not possible to select a noise sample, for instance when there is all along the track a sound I want to have (bird song or whatever).
