VideoPad keeps lagging, freezing and crashing and my computer's just fine

What version of the program is being used?  Look at the bottom-left corner of the VP window.

What is the average file size (HD/2K/4K)?  How long is the project?

Open OPTIONS | DISK tab and Clear Unused Cache Files.

Verify that the video driver and Direct-X are up to date...   https://www.nchsoftware.com/videopad/kb/1772.html

Install this version.  For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date.  After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest.  Retain your old install file and registration info.

Share your project and someone will check it out.  The process is easy, quick and can be done privately.  Just follow these steps...

  •     Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left.  Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER.  Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
  •     Upload ---  Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER.    Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file.
  •     Get link --- Get a public link.  If using Google Drive click GET SHAREABLE LINK. If necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view"
  •     Share ---     Click COPY LINK | DONE.  Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me.  It won't be shared.

          *    Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES.  Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.

Your project went well in 11.17 (32-bit),  after about ten minutes to let it fully cache.

Allow the blue bar (ribbon) under the preview window to turn purple.  It may seem to hang for several minutes.  Have patience.  image.png

Once that's done open OPTIONS | DISK tab and Clear Unused Cache Files.  Do this before beginning a new project, but not when reloading the same project last worked on.

You should get better results with a 64-bit release.  Here's a beta to check out.

If things still bog down, break up the project.  Export the partial project, which will become a single file.  Restart Videopad and clear the cache.

Continue with the new segment.  When complete, export it as well.

Lastly, begin anew and import the exports into a new project which is then a simple assembly of a few clips.  Export the final.

In any case, Save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves.  Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite.  From the HOME tab, that choice is available by clicking the chevron to the right of the Save Project button on the toolbar.

Here's a newer release that you might want to try.  Post your results.

With that version here, your project took a little less than seven minutes to fully cache.  After that, all went smoothly.

But even after a few minutes preview should respond to a limited extent.  If changes are made, some re-caching will take place.
