Importing CVS files

Thank you for letting me join this group.  

I would like to ask a simple basic question about CVS files.  I download file from my back in CVS file.  However when I import it into the program it askes for assignment of the headers.  The problem I have is that it groups it all in one line so therefore not able to assign titles to columns and separate out dates for example.   If I use for example excel and use the function to import the file into excel and it happily does that and separates it by common delimiters like ; or /..  so when i save as a CVS file the program will not accept the new information that is cleaned up so to say.  Can anyone please tell if I am doing this wrong or missing something to import this into the program and see it displayed as an account.   because of this lack of understanding I don't get to see any information displayed at all.
