Hi I'm new I don't even know where to post

Just started using this software.  Sorry if I'm not in the right section even the forum is new for me.  What I want to do is take a few minutes here and there out a 2 hour video to make a 3 minute video.  I'm not even sure I'd be able to get back to this area to find out some answers unless they are also posted to my email.  I can snip a few minutes off at the end and join full videos but I'm having trouble with the start and end snips right now.  I don't know the lingo so I don't even know how to look up help....thanks for any suggestions and help/
