Instagram Video Format

Hello Everyone, this is my first time to join this board.

I have a question, if any of you guys have experience this and how to address.

I have edited a video for Instagram, I used the instagram vertical video (9:16) in the preset in videopad. However, when I downloaded the video in Instagram, the video is not a correct fit when played in my mobile device (Android). the width of the video overflowed beyond the screen

1st question, there are 3 options related to instagram in videopad (i) instagram vertical video (9:16) (ii) iphone vertical video (9:16) (iii) Android phone vertical video (9:16).  Which one should I use?  if I used (ii) does it work with Android display or vide versa. I have already tried option (i) and it overflowed .

Thank you and regards,
Rodney

Test option iii of course.  If no go, then the best way to track down an answer for you is to let someone here see the project.  Fixes often come quickly.

The process is easy, quick and can be done privately.  Just follow these steps closely...

  •     Back up --- With your project on the timeline, click on MENU at the top-left.  Click FILE|BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER.  Choose a folder and SELECT FOLDER.
  •     Upload ---  Use a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.* - to upload the saved, numbered FOLDER.    Do NOT upload the individual VPJ or export file.
  •     Get link --- Get a public link.  If using Google Drive click GET SHAREABLE LINK. If necessary change "restricted" to "anyone with the link can view"
  •     Share ---     Click COPY LINK | DONE.  Paste that link here, or click the folder at the top-right of this forum to message it privately to me.  It won't be shared.

          *    Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES.  Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.

Hello Borate,

Thank you for the reply.

Here is what I have done so far

- I chose option (i) instagram vertical video (9:16), and it clipped in the width of the video when I uploaded the video in instagram (IGTV)

-rigth now I have done option (iii) Android phone vertical video (9:16). I will load it to Instagram later today and hopefully it should work on my android devices, unfortunatly I dont have an iphone to test it with

I will do as you suggested and send you the google drive link later today.

The biggest question, is why are there 3 options? As a user, it should not matter which device is accessing instagram (IGTV), right? 1080 x 1920 should mean the same for everyone

is there a possibility that this is an instagram issue? or compatibility of Videopad format with instagram?

Thank you and regards,

Rodney

Hello Borate,

Here is the google link with the information you needed

One more update,  using optiion iii also did not work with IGTV. The width of the video exceeded the width of the phone (Android).

Also can you let me know the different use cases for the 3 options. When do I use which option?

Regards,.

Rodney

Not a phone user here, so someone else will have to chime in on how that looks.  It does seem that this A/R would be identical on all devices;  VP 9:16 presets appeared to be the same. So, indeed, this may be an Instagram setting...

https://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/post-to-instagram-from-computer

has instructions for programming your submission for various devices.  "4. Choose which mobile device you'd like on the drop-down menu, as well as how zoomed in you want to be. Then, refresh the page. Now, you're seeing the mobile interface of Instagram from your browser."

Export here used these defaults...

Hello Borate,

Have you tried it on a mobile phone?

This is how it looks in my phone. As you can see it cuts out the left and right side,. compare it to what I see in my PC below

here is the comparison of the video as viewed in my computer versus mobile phone.

In the second slide are the pre-sets that I used.

I really need help on this one.

Your PC snapshot mirrors mine.  What effect does changing Instagram settings have on the sizing?

A friend took a look at the initial OneDrive test, using a Samsung Android phone.  There was nothing cut off.

Hints again that the issue lies with Instagram settings or, perhaps, the display settings on your phone??

Hello Borate,

Thank you again for your patience with me

I run the onedrive video that you provide and it works fine. I can see the whole screen in my adroid phone

Has your friend viewed the instagram account that I provided below in his Android device? to see if my video in IGTV works with other devices

One more thing, I ask my wife to access the video in IGTV and she has the same experience, it clips the video on both sides. She uses a Samsung Android. Im using a Motorola Android device.

Regards,

Rodney

No, your link to IG requires a log in.

But, since IG seems to be the sole sticking point, it's likely to be the culprit, not Videopad.  You might post the issue to one of their forums...

Videos must be in MP4 file format. Video Resolution: You can upload a vertical video with an aspect ratio of 9:16 or a horizontal video with an aspect ratio of 16:9. Videos should have a minimum frame rate of 30 FPS (frames per second) and a minimum resolution of 720 pixels. It won’t be a problem for you if you’ll post directly from your P.C., because that’s more convenient, you can edit the video in premiere pro for example, and after that upload it from the computer through onlypult. If you want to learn more about their application read their blog https://onlypult.com/blog/youtube-video-size.
