Limitations of home use version

A few months back I downloaded Videopad 8, but I haven't used it much.

Now when I start it up I get a message saying the trial period has expired but I can still use a restricted version for non-profit home use.
It seems to let me do most things, but if I try to select a different font than Arial, the dropdown list flashes for a second and then goes blank, stopping me from selecting any other font.
The thing is, my brother downloaded Videopad 8  at the same time as me, and his doesn't do that.
I'm using an old Toshiba Satellite on Windows 7, which is known for erratic mouse behaviour.
Is that behaviour a limitation of the free version, or something strange about my PC?
My brother's PC is much newer and running Windows 10.
