Working with text clip

Click the + sign to the right of the Sequence 1 tab above the timeline to open a new, blank sequence.

From the IMAGES tab in the bin (top-left), drag the clip to the timeline.

Click EXPORT | VIDEO on the toolbar and export the clip as an APNG file.  image.png

That video file title can then be used in future projects and can be resized, positioned, etc via the EFFECTS menu.

Set the sequence mode to MATCH MONITOR to get an idea of how it will look in export.  MATCH CONTENT may show smaller text.

Hi

Another possible way...

  • Create just the text clip as a project (even several text clips if you need them.)
  • Now Save Project As .  Give it a name like TEXT CLIPS   This will save a .vpj file
  • Open VP and start work on the new project
  • Whenever you want a saved text, click the Green Menu button at the top left of the GUI window
  • Slide down to File and then select Import Clips From Another Project.
  • Select your TEXT CLIPS .vpj  file and all the Text clips you made  will be imported to the current project.
  • Provided you never delete the TEXT CLIPS.vpj  file, they will always be available for use. You can even load it and add more Texts and Save  it again (Overwrite.)

Nat proposes an excellent method for saving multiple, individual text files.  For example, you might save ALL text clips from a project...

First, save the completed project.  Use save Project File AS routinely, giving it a unique # or name, so as not to overwrite prior saves.  Using Save Project Files (no AS) will overwrite.  Then you can restore a project to the state it was in when saved.  Just double-click the VPJ file (which isn't playable).

Then delete all but the text file tracks in the project and SAVE AS once again, giving it a unique name - such as TEXT FILES.

Be careful!

Do NOT use Save Project File (no AS) or click the Save Project icon on the toolbar.  That will overwrite your main project.  Click the chevron to its right, to reveal the Save AS choice.

In future projects, bring in the saved text.vpj file as Nat instructs and all those text clips will be available.

  • 1 year later...

This works fine (Nats idea), except that when I import clips from another project they seem to arrive with an extra "Sequence".  The new sequence does not contain the text clips as deleting the sequence triggers no "are you sure..." and the clips arrive in the bin from which the 'master'vpj were saved.

Not really into (understanding) sequences and the new sequence seemingly playing no useful part, whats it all about, why are the sequences created and is there a way of stopping them being created?

Otherwise, a neat way of saving - in my case - clips you would like to use in several projects.

Thanks

When you Save Project or Save Project As VP creates a vpj file that contains the data required to recreate your project. It's a text file but does not contain any images or clips so is a relatively small file. The data includes clip names and location; details of split  and edit positions; types and durations of any effects and transitions. Everything needed to reconstruct your work, and this includes texts and their details.

Essentially the vpj file is meant to be loaded as a stand alone file. VP will read the data in the file and recreate your project either by loading clips it finds listed from the cache  which are actual images or clip copies, or, if this has been emptied will loads them from the actual PC locations  using data saved in the vpj file.(It will prompt you to find them if you have moved/renamed/deleted them). Since VP is recreating the project in the state it was when you saved your work, it also recreates your work as a sequence which is a copy of the timeline at that point in the edit. All this is normal. VP end up exactly as it was when you saved  the project and that includes Sequence 1

Now. When you earlier saved your project of just useful texts  etc., VP saved a vpj file exactly as normal.  As this is identical to any other project, when you select to Import  it  VP loads the clips and text files (as expected) and, just as if it was a normal project  it creates a Sequence 2 file. However, since VP is Importing  the files and not Loading them it doesn't replace anything you have on the timeline and simply leaves them in the clip bin from where you can use them. The new Sequence 2 file is there as a matter of course. Indeed it might be useful. However it need not be used and can be deleted (or simply left), as the accompanying clips/texts are created separately.

Thank you Nat - clearly put - and the process works a treat in enabling me to save a text object and recreate it though other projects.  I have one that exactly positions a small piece of text, of a set font, set size, mixed colour, and these parameters are a bit tedious recreating from scratch each time.

Thank you.
