CD Burning issues !

I thought I'd try Express Burn for simple audio CD burning from wav files. Another program has been refusing to open since I restored my Mac system from a different drive  after a crash. The problems include sound breaking down on playback. Individual tracks are numbered but not accessible. I burned using disc at once settings with 0 secs gaps because the tracks are a continuous concert. If I skip tracks it won't play at all. If I play from track 1 it rarely gets through without some breakdown. Could it be the OS ? I am running High Sierra 10.13. or maybe the hardware. I'm using an external Asus burner.
