How to correct jerky/jumpy clips in videos

Hi i am struggling  to resolve a problem i have with my long videos. Some are hours long relaxation type videos for youtube. They are from original 20 seconds to a minute or so long. I have noticed that the jerkiness is the same length the video ends as it moves onto the extended clips each time. Transitioning using fade in doesn't work. I am relatively new to the editing game and really would appreciate some expert or more experienced person to show me how i can get out of this conundrum?

What version of Videopad is being used?

It's not clear what you mean by "moves onto the extended clips."  But the best way to sleuth this is to share it here (or in private).  Please upload the PORTABLE project (not an export).

If it contains sensitive material link it in a personal message (PM).  Click the envelope above.  It won't be passed on or retained.  Use FILE|SAVE PORTABLE PROJECT AS, not simply SAVE PROJECT, and don't forget to get a shareable, public link - not one that is restricted.

Hi Lee

It's not clear from your description how you are trying to construct your long video or how you are using the 20 second or minute clips? Knowing what you are aiming for and what you have at the start to do it with may give a clearer idea of how you might proceed.

  • 3 weeks later...

Basically i am making videos 2 -10+ hours long for youtube, relaxation type. Some videos are maybe only 20 secs long so i continue dropping and dragging clips down building to 2 hrs etc. Thing is due to around every 20 secs end of the original length of the video then there's a jump .or movement. Sometimes there is a smooth transition and i get away with a no problem video when i put a fade in at regular intervals. This method is quite demanding as it is tiring to the eyes and after a while boring. Can this be done in a more simpler easy way. Thanks for any help, Nat.

What version of Videopad is being used?  Try a recent version.  For licensed users upgrades are free for up to six months from purchase date.  After that, VP will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the newest.  Retain your old install file and registration info.

Save your project, using SAVE PROJECT AS (routinely), giving it a unique # and name to avoid overwriting earlier saves.  Save Project (no AS) will overwrite.

Then isolate (split-out) a portion of the project that displays this jumpiness and delete the rest.  Share that here or in private so someone can check it out.  Don't export.  Just follow these steps...

1. With your project on the timeline, click the 3-lined 'hamburger' menu, top-left.  Click FILE | BACK UP PROJECT FILES TO FOLDER.  Specify a folder.  Click SELECT FOLDER.
2.  Using the PC file manager, go to where the numbered folder was saved and upload it to a free server - Google Drive, MS OneDrive, etc.*
3.  Get a shared, public, non-restricted link.
4.  Paste that link here, or click the folder, above top-right in this forum, and message it to me.  This is private and won't be shared.
*    Before uploading, right-click the folder, click PROPERTIES.  Look at the File Size to confirm that it's not too big for the free space on the server.
