Can't record with free version

Should I be able to record with the free version of Debut? If not I don't really see the point of it.

I installed the software a few weeks ago, and managed to do a couple of recordings. All fairly straightforward and obvious. I just went to use it again, and it says the free trial has expired. I went to uninstall it and it gave me the option to downgrade to the free version instead, so I chose that. When  I run the software now, I press the record button and nothing happens. The button changes colour briefly to indicate it has been pressed but it doesn't start recording.

I went to uninstall again, but this time I chose the repair (reinstall) option to see if that might help.

Now when I press the record button, I get a message saying that the feature I'm trying to use requires the professional version.

Given that this is the basic core function of the program, I don't see any point in the free version at all.

Full uninstall required I think, and search for alternative product.

Let's try doing a clean install and delete all the cache of the program. Uninstall your software first, then go to the folder location below on your computer then delete the Debut folders:

C:\ProgramData\NCH Software
C:\Users\(Your computer profile)\AppData\Roaming\NCH Software\Debut

If you can't find the AppData folder, set Windows to show hidden files and folders with the steps from this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14201/windows-show-hidden-files.

After deleting the Debut folder, restart your computer then install it again from the next link:  https://www.nchsoftware.com/capture/debutpsetup.exe

That should do it. Please try it again after that and see if that fixes the issue.

  • 3 weeks later...

Thanks for trying to help. Sorry for not getting back to you on this I've been busy with other projects.
I remembered that I have another program installed and can do a screen record using that instead.
Hopefully your advice might be useful for someone else if they encounter the same problem.

Cheers
Phil.
