Videos Rendered from Videopad Won't Play Properly

I've been using the FREE version of Videopad Video Editor for years, having certified I use it for personal use rather than commercial use.

Recently, when I render videos and try to play them back in VLC Player, Windows Media Player, or Movies & TV, they won't play properly. I try to skip ahead in the video to watch later parts and either there is an extreme audio desync to the point of ruining the video-viewing experience or the video glitches and stops playing entirely, with a time code displaying an astronomical, incorrect number, such as 752:56:20 or whatever. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program and rerendering videos to no avail.

Why is this? Is this because I'm using the free version?

That shouldn't be the case; . but  it would be useful to know which version you are using and what video format are you exporting to play in VLC. If you have never changed this version of VP and your exports have previously played OK then nothing should be different. Your downloaded version of VP whether free or otherwise should behave as it always did. Where are you seeing the incorrect time code?  Your post seems to suggest it is VLC or your alternative player.

Do previously exported videos from VP that play OK in VLC preview properly when previewed in VP?

You can also upload a short project (video)  that exhibits this behavior to Dropbox etc.   and someone can load it to VP and and see what it does.

Have you tried clearing the cache from Options/disc?

I am using Version 7.11 and exporting to .avi. I wanted to try .mp4, .mkv, and .mpeg to see if it was the file format, but you can't export to those in the free version.

The incorrect time code appears in the normal place it does in all the video players I listed. Towards the bottom of the screen. It doesn't appear in VLC Player but the sync issue still occurs. I'd include a screenshot or two but can't seem to find a way to add it to this forum post.

What does clearing the cache from Options/disc do?

If the cache is corrupt, Clearing Unused Cache Files can occasionally eliminate problems.

Upload and share a project that isn't working for you and others will test it.

Here's how to do that as well as how to upload a screenshot...    http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/23659-tips-for-getting-help-on-this-forum/

You should be able to export to mp4 with this 'lite' version, which has some limitations.  Prompts to purchase, for the best experience, will appear from time to time.

Hi

"....What does clearing the cache from Options/disc do?....."

The cache contains copies of your indexed project clips which are created  as you work. They look similar to this......

aa.jpg

In a new editing session, you run the vpj project file that you saved and  VP will consult the cache and if the right video files are found for the project it can load the clips and thumbnails to the timeline fairly quickly and one can continue to edit without too much delay.

Under normal circumstances these cache files are not deleted and so with every new project you start,  the cache gets bigger and can contain hundreds of files. Apart from slowing things down,  cache files not related to the project being loaded can also cause problems if they have become corrupted and  haven't been cleared.

Having loaded your project using the vpj file, clearing unused cache files ensures that only the ones you have loaded to VP are present.

Clearing the cache files completely and starting with a clean slate is also not a problem as the vpj project file contains all the data required for rebuilding your work. Providing you still have your clips on the computer in the same folders,  your project and the cache are rebuilt. It takes a little longer to do this as the cache is initially empty and the clips have to be reindexed, but when complete, opening your work at a later date will be much faster as the files will now be present in the cache and indexing will not be necessary.

Clearing cache files did nothing. Borate, the "lite" version you included did not allow me to render in .mp4 format - I got a message saying it was a "paid format."

The program is only getting worse. So not only am I still having the same issues as before, but now, when I try to apply video effects or anything to clips on the timeline and then render a video with them, the render will IGNORE the video effects and the resulting video will be like a tenth the size it should be. Is Videopad slowly becoming less and less compatible with Windows 10, or what? I have never had this new issue ever before.

I don't have the project with the video player issues anymore to save as a "portable project" but I do have screenshots from the video render and another project demonstrating the video effects and audio/video desync issue, although when I play a render from this project, the video lengths are normal. You can find it at this link. PLEASE HELP!

Without the portable project file, little can be discerned.  The latest version is here, though there can be some backward incompatibility.  This is why it's recommended to export with the version that created the project.

As for export, Mp4 and AVI are wrappers that contain compressors.  The Mp4 default is H264.  Try installing the VP 'lite' version once again.  It exports Mp4 here.           If that fails there, choose the AVI export format, then click on the Default Quality/Filesize link and verify H264, which should produce a comparable result.

Save your project.  Then, with it on the timeline, export a small portion that demonstrates the effects issue.  To do this easily place the mouse point in the blank gray area between the time index and the thumbnails, then left-click/drag.  You should see a blue highlight.  Press delete to remove that section.  When only the demo portion remains, save it as a portable project, zip it, upload and share here.

I'll see if I can remake that old project that had the timestamp issue. Really, it has happened to all of my latest projects so it could really be with anything.

In the mean time, please look at the link I provided below. The more pressing issue right now is the fact that applying video effects don't apply to the render and screw it up. The "Glitchy Lake" project is in there. I added a sample video render. Watch it in your video player and try skipping ahead in the video. You should notice the audio cuts out for a second before it returns. This is a sign of desyncing. A few minutes before the end of the video, the audio should finish. Or what you can do is check the "Video Effects" yourself and then render the video. You'll find the effects are absent. Furthermore, the data bitrate is MUCH lower than it should be.

This is the same file as linked above.  When played in MPC-HC the slow audio fade ends just before the final font appears.

When skipping ahead the audio and video resume instantly and concurrently.  Audio never cuts out.

As it stands, the output that you have linked looks perfectly good.  There is no way to test the effects issue and render the video unless you supply the PORTABLE PROJECT or a portion thereof that demonstrates the issues, as instructed earlier.

But sir, this is the Portable Project. The output is not good. I added before render and after render screenshots to the link, demonstrating the video data bitrate and the fact they don't match at all.

I have no idea what you mean by "final font." There is no font in the video.

The link you supplied leads to a single exported file -not the project files or any screenshots.  The file name is Coil-ColourSoundOblivion-Dvd16deinterlacedX264Flac-002.mkv

It is a 2:23:28 video that ends with this screen.  (You likely mean excerpt #6.)

The video plays well, with no glitches or pauses.  There's no lip sync, so the sync issue cannot be assessed.

Interestingly, the MKV file in the package lists as 720 x 480. This may be a misrepresentation by the file reader...

As the sole file in the VP video bin it is shown as 640 x 480, which I believe is correct.  Standard NTSC.

On the VP timeline there are two identical 4:31 video clips and a continuous audio file under both.

This does not appear to be the original sequence that created the project, but a later incarnation incorporating many transitions???  No video effects are present.

This suggests that what's needed instead is to load a small portion - say five minutes - of the original build that created the MKV, complete with effects and transitions.  Then save it as a portable project and upload/share.

Hi Folks,

Have used videopad for many years and have been pleased with it until recently.  I am using a registered version 7.11.  A basic stringing of clips will render and play fine.  It seems when I add transitions and still shots (pics) there are hiccups in the final rendered export.  I have had to go through the extremely tedious process of rerendering minus music, going through the exported version and cutting the glitches between each of the clips.  About ready to go buy something else.  If anyone has an idea it would be appreciated.  Here is a copy of the most recent glitch filled video:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
