If not, what version of VP are you using?

Upload and share your project and someone will take a look.  Here's how...  http://nch.invisionzone.com/topic/23659-tips-for-getting-help-on-this-forum/

If you are a registered user, remember that upgrades are free for up to six months.  After that, your purchase will continue to fully function but a fee will be required in order to register the latest.  Always retain the installer file, though it's automatically backed up on the PC.

All the above advice may sound good to a technical person.   Aspect ratios and changes etc....Maybe I am not good at understanding all that.

I, too, have the "black borders" on both sides when a photo image is landscape and all sides when photo image is portrait.   They pushed Photopad on how to change the background under Tools, but that did not solve the entire problem.

I am a simple retired guy with a new hobby.  When the photo image clip shows up in the Clip Preview window with the gray/white checkerboard around it,  Why can't those areas just be deleted OR have a way to make the photo fit and cover the entire black area(s)?

There are three new choices in the effects window in recent Videopad versions.  Test each, to see if one achieves your objective.

In SEQUENCE preview mode, it is probably best to choose MATCH MONITOR in the Aspect Ratio box under the preview window.

It's likely that much of this confusion will clear when you are more familiar with the program.  Takes time.

MATCH MONITOR works fine, and relies upon the resolution of your monitor.  The two choices there apply to how the clip displays in the preview window.

Upload the two photos that require different aspect ratios and indicate how you want them to appear.

Thank you for the offer.  With your advice,  I learned that if I use the effects tab in the “pesky” photos, the black border is resolving.   Some use letterbox, others use crop etc...
