How To Engage the OCR Technology

So I have the latest (as of today, 08.21.2018) Doxillion software installed on my Mac and have converted scanned in documents (PDF files) to Word documents.  For some reason, the default .docx conversion did not work, but at least the .doc conversion did.  However, the resulting Word .doc file is not editable.  is the OCR Technology automatically engaged?  It doesn't seem like it.  If not, how do you do an OCR conversion of a PDF to a Word document so it can be edited.

I apologize for my earlier reply. I was mistaken. When I convert a .pdf file that was sent to me, it converted easily to an editable .docx file. It was only when I trad to convert a document that i made via scanning  to a .pdf format that I could not obtain an editable .docx file. Sorry about my previous reply; I was srong about the source of one of the files.
