The older version was way more intuitive. I could drag to project, click the left flag, record, click the right flag, the arrow icon, the film icon; when my project was ready, I could removeinitial clip I was editing prior to having Video Pad edit the clip under my chosen label. All this happened in one place, the left-hand side of the screen. I never really understood what was happening on the right side, but it didn't matter. All I'm trying to do is reduce my clips by removing dull parts, then saving the new clip. It used to work so simply. After finishing, Video Pad would then notify me project was ready, and I'd find it in VideoPadProects. Simple. If NCH is trying to force an upgrade, I'm not sure I can ever make this work, home premium or not. I'd even consider upgrading if it would allow me to crop/zoom. I'm looking for a more serviceable, simple alternative. Windows Movie Maker may have to be my new editor. Any suggestions? Hey, NCH: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Ever hear of "New Coke"? Or Windows 8? I want my old version back, that works on Windows 8.

Hi

What version of Videopad are you using now?

3.04. I'd have to re-open my Win 7 laptop to tell you the version I was used to and liked. But I'm sure it was up to date for 7.

You tested the VP install in Windows 7 compatibility mode? Right-click the installer file, click PROPERTIES, then the COMPATIBILITY tab and choose Win 7. Install.

You might even specify Win 7 compatibility for the VP executable (.exe file), after install. It is unlikely that this will succeed for VP 2.x versions on Windows 8, but it might improve things for 3.x.

That was interesting. Never realized that feature.

Anyway, I was able to drop the clip into the video files. I did the arrow thing, but when I pressed the green down arrow, everything went over to the right side. When I tried to resume later in the clip, I got the message "you can't move the in point beyond the out point". Before I could. Looking to the right side, that seems to only be the first between arrows segment.

Also, it seems only a small portion of my chosen (8 min.) clip is available to stick pins. About 30 seconds or so.

Hi

You seem to be confused regarding the two screens... :)

The LEFT hand screen previews the selected clip (irrespective of where it is) and allows it to be trimmed etc.Only the selected clip is played in this screen.

The RIGHT hand screen previews the project or the clips when they are on the timeline, (the sequence line) and what is seen there depends on position of the red cursor line. The whole sequence of clips on the timeline is played in this screen.

e.g.

If you have selected a clip in the media list then it will preview in the LEFT hand screen. It will not be visible in the right hand screen until it has been placed on the timeline. You can drag and drop it onto the timeline if you wish and trim it there.....or....as you seem to be doing...

Trim it beforehand in the LEFT hand screen by pulling the red IN marker to the right and pulling the blue OUT marker to the left.

This will trim the clip as shown by the extent of the green bar which is under the thumbnails.

Clicking the green down - arrow will now place the trimmed clip onto the timeline (or sequence line) where, by default it will be selected. (shown by it turning blue) and will now appear in the RIGHT hand screen. The right hand screen is used to preview your PROJECT, i.e. all the clips that are on the timeline.
