And a fade OUT configurable duration would also be helpful. ^_^

In the meantime, build yourself a custom transparency effect template.

Open the effects editor, choose TRANSPARENCY, set the opacity at zero and click the small green + to set a keyframe.

Then move the scrubber (red line) to the fade-in length desired and set another keyframe.

You can also drag the line upwards between these points to customize the curvature of the fade in.

When satisfied, click the SAVE icon in the effects toolbar (4th from the left) and give the template a name.

Thereafter, to apply this fade in, open effects and scroll down to the templates section.  Apply your template.

To apply the template to multiple clips...

Select (highlight) the clips, then ON THE TOOLBAR choose video effects and scroll to your template.

A prompt will appear asking to APPLY TO ALL or to ONE.
