ddrum4 audio format

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

My first post in this forum. Me and some fellas at this forum http://unofficially-ddrum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=technical&action=display&thread=60 are trying to understand how Clavia engineered the audio format that is used in their ddrum4 drum trigger modules. The files have the extension .mid but is not your average midi file. It contains data on how the module should play the samples back etc. A file can contain up to 10 different drumsamples, and they are compressed in a proprietary format. These files were created on Mac 86k computers, ca 1996.

Here are some pdf's describing parts of the file structure, but not the actual audio part of the file. http://home.comcast.net/~bill.piland/site/?/page/DD4_Sound_File_Format/&PHPSESSID=a746d63f7b53cf8ae9b587d677915e06

If anybody has any idea of how to reverse engineer this, help is much appreciated.

thanks

/Krillo
