Express Scribe won't play my aiff file.

I am a newbie with a Mac OS 10.3.1. A friend sent me a dd file which I was able to load and play in Express Scribe. Now a client has sent me aiff files that I can load, but not play. I notice that in the Express Scribe folder, this aiff file has no "duration," just 00:00. Is this a problem? Or does the file name have anything to do with its play-ability? I'd be grateful for any suggestions. Thanks a lot. --Ruth
