Closing P&L to Balance Sheet

I have downloaded and have been entering data into EA for Mac. I like the clean look and straightforward entry of data. But I can't seem to get the Balance Sheet to balance with data from the Income Statement (P&L). My P&L shows a net profit, but that doesn't show up in the Equity section of the Balance Sheet as Retained Earnings -- or as anything else. How does EA link the P&L to the Balance Sheet? Is there something that has to be done manually?
