Speech to text help needed

Recommended Posts

I have to transcribe an interview for a class project, and a librarian recommended this program, but I am very confused as to how to use it. I have search countless tutorials (including this forum), and still am completely clueless as to how to use the speech to text function. I have loaded my file correctly, have enabled my speech to text program (it's the default Microsoft office program) along with the profile thing and have otherwise set everything up how all the instructions say, but at the end of the day, it seems the only thing the program will let me do is listen to my file as if it were just another media player. Am I missing something?

I have Microsoft Office XP, 2003, if that helps. no foot pedals, only the hot keys.

thank you!

Make sure you configure the speech-to-text options first, as the conversion is done when the dictation is loaded. And don't give up too soon - the conversion takes a very long time for long audio files, and there's no indication it's working until the entire text appears when it finishes.
