Hello,

Apologies if I am being a bit slow on the up take!

I had thought the software ran in two ways.... on your mac as a desktop app

and as an online app that you could access from any computer. My brother and I run a business at opposite ends of the country and we have been looking for a way to both log-in to an invoicing program. Do you need to be on the same local network as the mac that runs express invoice? and does that mac need to be running the software for it to work?

Many thanks

Hello bargey,

No, you don't need to be on the same network to access EI on another Mac.

All you need to do is point to the IP address and port of the machine and log in.

Remember, though, that if you have a router with firewall you will have to ensure that you open the TCP port on your router, mapped to the local address of the machine.

For instance, let's assume that the EI Mac has IP address 192.168.1.3 and that EI web server listens on port 1045.

You will therefore have to configure the router rule as follows

External Port: 1045 Internal Port 1045 local IP 192.168.1.3

If you do not have a static IP address with your Internet provider, I strongly recommend you use a free dynamic IP host service such as http://dyndns,com which will track the IP as it changes and will associate it to a more memorable host name such as http://bargey.dyndns.com:1045

I hope this answers your question!

Greetings.
