Gibberish when transfering pocket dictate files

When using pocket dictate, and when attempting to send directly from the device, no dictation files are attached to the message. It shows up as gibberish in the main body of the message. This happens wheter I choose WAV or DCT formats. Also, I am unable to open the dication after I have hotsynced the device. According to the manual, if the device does not have the ability to send the files directly from the device, the files will be tranferred upon synching. Where are they??
