Desperately Need Advice before purchasing

I have been reading all the different software program descriptions and my first question: Is there a Phone # I can call and actually speak to a real time person who can answer some questions? Secondly I'm trying to see if the Doctor I'm working for can purchase something he can send his dictations to me without him actually having his computer system in the office being on the internet.. I mean can he buy some type of handheld/palm dictator that he can send his dictations to me by using his regular phone line in the office or at his home and send it to my e-mail? I hate to sound so dumb but the more I read about everything the more confused I become. He has asked me to research what all we would need to purchase in order to make this work. (He is still dictating on microcassette tapes and I have to pick up and deliver the work twice weekly and this is a great imposition) Plus he never has a way to send give me a STAT to do. I am trying to get him out of the dinosaur age and make things better for his practice as well as for me.

I appreciate any input anyone has to give. He won't buy anything without knowing everything first. Thanks, Sherry

NCH does offer limited presale support, but you can try the software for free, which is what we have done. For your doc, you can use a single line modem (VOICE MODEM - check NCH's suggestions) connected to a phone line in your office, with Dial Dictate (single license). This will give you ONE ID for your doc. He can then call into your phone number and dictate from anywhere. Your thoughts on him using a PDA to dictate is an option, and he can email you the files as long as they're encrypted. If you go that route, you would only need a program to play back the files (Express Scribe is a good option). Hope this helps a bit. You can email NCH for presales support, but I don't believe you'll get a phone number without paying for support.

We have a much different setup in our office, we have conencted DialDictate to our Cisco IP Phone system and all of our doctors dictate using the phone on thier desks and the dictation gets sent to our transcriptionists right away. I have to say, I downloaded the demo, tested it for a week, got the setup working perfectly, bought it, and haven't had a second thought over the last year of it's use.

Setting it up with one line and modem for a doctor should be pretty simple since you don't have to tie it into and exisiting phone system. This software is very flexible and with Express Scribe being free you only have to buy the DialDictate software. I would definately recomend that you give it a try.
