Attach your white/red audio out of tour camera to your desktop pc via the line-in port. You’ll need an RCA to 3mm adapter. If you’re using a mono source the white connector is the audio. I use an Easy Capture device and it works fine. So basically, the only thing going through your dongle is the video signal.

I share your concerns. I use an Easy Capture USB dongle and cannot get any audio. What I wound up doing was taking the left audio output (white RCA connector) from my camcorder and attaching it to the LINE-IN on my desktop PC via aN RCA to 3mm converter cable. Works fine but a PITA.
