  1. Applying a zoom effect was always slow to do but now it's just terrible. Preview screen becomes totally grey and it flickers when I move in the key-frame timeline. It's very annoying! And that's another disappointing update for me Update: After a vp restart it still won't work properly. These incremental, buggy updates, don't work! The developers need to come up with a better update plan, this just sucks!! Start with some proper quality control!!!! Rapid developers, sigh! Another Update: When I move the mouse over the preview to make a change the preview becomes grey. When I hove the play-head the picture comes back. And them I notice for some reason the vp added the motion effect! WHY ??? Yet another update: I'm back to v8.91 using a system restore point. And I still have issues with the zoom function. Preview still gets grey. Issues like this make me so tired with v.p. The amount of time lost on bug and cache generating is staggering! Still it's proably better them that wondershare software I was using before Here we go again: I want to zoom in to a 16:9 region of a picture and then zoom out to another area using the zoom effect. But for some reason it's no longer possible. Do I have to use the pan and zoom effect or ken burn effect? I used to be able to do what I wanted just using zoom. And why are there 3 fx for basically the same? That's redundant and a bit ridiculous imho. And what's with that motion effect that is being added all the time?? It's official, that zoom effect is driving me crazy!!! It works on pictures I applied it to before, I just can not do it again. And sick or reloading / restarting and waiting!!
  2. So I just upgraded to 8.95 and loaded a finished/old project After it was finally done regenerating the cache, and there was some sound again, I checked for errors. I found no major issues, but the scale fx that I applied to some 4:3 inspection microscope footage was gone. Now is that Chinese Andonstar microscope footage a bit strange. It displayed as 16:9 using vlc, but the windows explorer thumbnail and videopad make me believe it's 4:3, and that's why it needed the scale effect. Maybe some exif information that is only applied correctly in vlc. Bit like those annoying auto rotate picture setting that can screw you up Anyway the question I have; is it normal that fx settings are gone after updating the software? Is it something you can expect? Note: Before I needed to select the scale 4:3 to 16:9 setting. Now I only have to select the scale fx and make no changes whatsoever and I get the required result. Bit strange.
  3. I just exported a clip with the video track set to blank. The video file I got had a black screen but the export went a lot quicker, and was a lot smaller. I edited the file in audacity and imported it back into videopad after making some changes. It's not perfect but I worked for me
  4. Thanks for sharing you process and experience Alan. For sure I could improve my work a bit, by organising things a bit better and using the media bins a bit more efficient
  5. I'm not using all those clips. Originally I was going to but after about 90 minutes the became really undoable. I will upgrade my storage and perhaps edit everything together at some point. I just finished my edit and doing a test export at this moment. I guess I could upgrade to the new version, because I need to clean out the cache anyway, since the c:\ is filling up .
  6. All the sudden half of my thumbnails are gone in the media bin. v.p. probably needs another restart, but am I pushing it to hard with 320 video clips and about 200 fotos? (I'm not even using 1/3 of that material) I just hit the X to close vp, hopefully it will close gracefully, because this restart is wasting another 15 minutes Note: There seems to be something wrong with the forum software, as my arrow keys are not responding anymore.
  7. I'm on a roll tonight Here's another first for me. While changing the play length of a picture in track 1 dragging the brackets from right to left. I see the audio waveform in audio track 1 being extended. Like it's zooming in at the same time. I don't think anything really happened, but it was a w.t.f. moment! I got video proof if anyone wants it
  8. Did anyone ever have any lag when pressing ctrl-z in video pad v8.91 Just experienced it for the second time tonight with only an medium cpu load, maybe 40% I just could not undo a couple of cuts I made. Pressed ctrl-z maybe ten times. Nothing happened. v.p. was still pretty responsive. I've seen worse. -0-0- 10/24 3:01AM With recent updates, using ctrl-z has become rather slow and unreliable. Anyone else noticed this?
  9. And now another problem: Cut the clip on track one and deleted part of it. Everything automatically moved to the left. But not far enough. It stopped at the and of the clip in track 2. So I right click the gap in track one and select close the gap in the track. Gap closed for track one but everting else stays put. The option close gap in sequence was greyed out. Unexpected behaviour and I worked around it by moving the clip in track 2 a bit to the left. If I wasn't paying special attention things like this could do real damage! The "marker" clips I placed on track 2 and 3 and audio 2 worked great for this
  10. Update. So I'm replacing a clip on track 1 and adding a second clip on track 2 in more or less the same location. So far so good. But when I change the length of the clip in track 2 by dragging the bracket on the left to the right so the clips gets shorter. But then everything in track 2 including the audio and a text file I placed on track 3 (no typo) gets moved to the left. To work around this behaviour I avoided using the brackets and cut the clip on track 2 into pieces and used the mouse to move it into the correct position. Looks like I found the problem that cost me a lot of time I suggest you avoid using the brackets. But a fix would be better. Holding the Alt key while dragging the bracket seems fix my problem. I did not expect that would be necessary because there was nothing on track 2 next to the clip I was editing. Now I know better, good leanings moment for me
  11. About 300 video clips and 200 pictures in the media bin. The time line is at the moment little over 30 minutes long. And I just had to quit vp because it wasn't showing any thumbnails for my new clips. That's another 10 minutes gone And I'm doing this import for the second time tonight At least the thumbnails are there after the restart
  12. If I use the lock track option everything is locked and I can not make any changes. Besides I need to delete and reinsert a few clips on track one and I need to move everthing together (also track 2) with the changes I'm making. But I do not trust v.p. to do the right thing. And I don't want to check the rest of the time line all the time. Progress is slow already
  13. I've given up on moving things back to its correct position in time. But what is good practise when making changes to track on and adding stuff to track 2. I'm already saving a lot but loading a project can be so freaking slow and I don want to watch the whole timeline after every little change. How about adding some text clip of the same length as a clip in track 1 and use those as a reference to check nothing has moved? Maybe also add some bogus wave file in the same position.
  14. On my pc it takes about 4 minutes to open a videopad project. During that time I don't see a whole lot of cpu or disk usage. So why is this taking so long? I don't get it, what is the bottleneck here? After the project is open, CPU usage goes up and it takes about a minute before I can see my latest video clip at the bottom of the media bin. This is so freaking slow, if you need to go though some save files and find out where things went wrong.
  15. I will give that feature a try. Although it sounds a bit counter intuitive for an editor. b.t.w. is there a easy option to ungroup everything and move all the clips on track 2 together (including audio) a bit to the right? Doing it one by one will take ages, and I don know when it got messed up because it happened out of sight because I was zoomed in.
  16. I'm currently adding some extra footage to my project, mostly using track 2. But I just found out that almost everything on track 2 has moved again. Sigh. (probably after making changes on track one.) I'm being careful not to add long clips on track 2 that might overlap with other clips on the same track. And I did group clips together, but unfortunately that feature does not work for keeping things together. So how do I make sure things don't change further up in the time line that is out of my sight when zoomed in? Because this is annoying and rather time consuming
  17. Glad it worked out. And good to know this recycle bin thing is not a but but a new feature There are currently 39 deleted copies of the same file name in my recycle bin. I'm sure I did not save 39 times in the last 2 days, so that's a bit weird.
  18. Something strange happening on the forum, I know I replied to a user called LinkA, that name is also shown on the forum index page as the last posting. But it's gone and so is my reply??? Very strange stuff!!! An error or censorship?? I will be making screenshots :)
  19. I thought I replied to this topic or did I get censored? Strange, weird things going on here. Lets try again. I'm going to be doing something similar to the topic started in the hope to boost vp performance. You could try to mount the new volume to the original vp cache folder. I believe windows call this a junction.
  20. V.P. has also cost me more time then I like, but it could be great little tool. Check if there is a backup file generated by v.p. (should be in the same folder and have _backup added to the name) and there could also be something in your recycle bin, for some reason my version v8.91 seems to put copies in the recycle bin. I've never seen a program do that
  21. I will admit that the obs studio software might have slowed down vidiopad slightly. But you must admit that this is a ridiculous use of CPU cycles. And that, on a project I worked on just before, so I would expect that it had all the cache files needed. But c’mon, about an hour of high cpu usage after just moving a clip at the end a bit to the right. That’s ridiculous, something is clearly wrong here. And you don’t want to know how long I needed to wait for the audio to work again, after I had to clear out the vp cache. Because vp was filling up c:\ drive with cache files again. I used the clear unused cache files button in vp, clearly the were no really unused. More then 3 hours, and that was only on the second half hour of the project. I deleted the 1st half hour with the multi camera scenes. In my opinion there is something wrong here, design wise. Perhaps auto generating dedicated proxy files and placing them in a separate folder underneath the project folder could work better. Just a though :)
  22. Why am I not surprised I doubt that anyone, including the developer, exactly knows how the cpu usage works or how it effect the program.
  23. I ended up inserting a text file of a certain length. I better served as a reminder anyway
  24. Quick question. How do I easily create some extra space in the time line? Basically move everything a bit to the right.
  25. Here's a video to illustrate the ridiculous amount of CPU usage when working with videopad. https://youtu.be/G-SiXbHzB0c note: I hope, it will somehow inspire the developer to do better
