Yeah, but why is the 60 fps option called smart? And when would you use a variable bitrate. Would it be a good idea to use a variable bitrate for footage without a lot of movement? (static tripod recordings) To save some upload time.
-
So what exactly is so smart about the smart max 60fps output setting? And why is there not a max 50fps option? My camera only does 50pfs, like most in the 50hz regions.

Borate, can you say anything about the hardware and the version prefered by videopad? Cuda, OpenCL, NVENC, Quick Sync and all that jazz. What does v.p. favour? Intel or AMD? (especially for laptops)

Lagging, stuttering, breaking, unsmooth playback
Uberprutser replied to Dele Praise's topic in VideoPad
Sound like you are overloading the system. When ever you apply an effect new cache files need to be generated, and that takes time. Go for a coffee break and try again. Hopefully the processor usage will have come down again after v.p. has worked trough its back log of things to do in the background. v.p. is o.k. for small simple video edits. But it can easily grind down any system with its background work queue.- 16 replies

Length of Video before becoming unstable to carry on
Uberprutser replied to GDAS's topic in VideoPad
There might not be an option you can configure. But 64bit versions have been notifying me about a cache clean-up when ever I close a project. This also happens at other times when v.p. is running. You can either wait or press the cancel button. I think this would qualify as an automatic clean-up, you can not opt out from. -
Length of Video before becoming unstable to carry on
Uberprutser replied to GDAS's topic in VideoPad
VP is deleting cache files all the time. Only since recent updated they added a notification about this process, with the option to cancel it (best update) You are probably better of deleting the cache files manually using windows file explorer. Go to bed and let v.p. generate new cache files. At some point the amount of files in a folder will negatively effect any windows program. They should put all that cache stuff in a decent database instead of relying on the file system! -

Upgrade your computer! VP is extremely resource hungry when the project gets longer or when the editing gets more complex. Sadly the 64 bit version won't make a huge difference. v8.56 is not that old. At some point the amount of cache file generating / deleting will bog down any system. The whole cache file system is in a desperate need for a complete overhaul i.m.h.o. (Waiting minutes to delete some cache files is just ridiculous) -
My mistake, don't know what I was thinking there. Please delete the post

I want to do a fade to black effect on a text clip without affecting the track underneath. Is this possible or did I find a bug in v10.12?
-
Whenever I run into export issues I delete the videopad cache files and restart my computer just to be sure.

resolved Spanning a zoom effect over multiple clips
Uberprutser replied to Uberprutser's topic in VideoPad
This worked out fine for me, thanks borate. Although there was a bit of confusion with the audio. I had to go in to sequence 2 to mute the clip. Not a bit deal, just something you need to do once -
I don't know what happened but the pop-up window was gone.

I closed that window and it's still going

How do I stop the export of a project without killing the videopad executable? I'm trying out the 64bit version (10.12) and I do not see a separate process (h.264) that I could kill.
-
I actually installed a pci-e card with a nvme ssd drive to speed up cache file generating. It helps a bit, but generating a new cache file for every little change is certainly a design flaw i.m.h.o.

I cut up a video in multiple clips and now I want to do a pan and zoom effect spanning all the pieces. How can I do this? Every clip has its own FX button and key frames, and I don't feel doing a whole lot of number counting to get the desired result.

resolved Fade in from black but not at the start
Uberprutser replied to Uberprutser's topic in VideoPad
I ended up replacing part of the video with a blank clip and the adding a fade in effect on the next clip. I should have tried key-framing the Transparency effect, that might have been easier. (I did have a look at the exposure effect, but that did not allow me to change the video to pure black) -
I want to fade in a clip but not a the start of the sequence and I don't believe I can use a transition because the previous clip will also be blacked out. Or can I perhaps create a "unbalanced" transition? I found the fade options under the fx button. But now I have a follow up question. The fade from back does not happen at the moment I want so can I cut up the clip and make it back? Or do I need to replace the video with something that is already black?

Few suggestions for videopad subtitle mode and exporting
Uberprutser replied to Videoguy1's topic in VideoPad
I tried the subtitle function once. It works fine but it is lacking in customisation options, so plenty room for improvements there. When exporting in h.264 or h.265, it is not a problem to set output bitrate. -
Images & audio files keep moving by themselves
Uberprutser replied to HelpingSaveHumanity's topic in VideoPad
In my experience, you need to keep an eye on videopad, especially to what it is doing elsewhere on the time line when working zoomed in. Often things get misaligned when you're making small changed. Example: Items on track two are no longer where they are supposed to be. This happens most likely because of the auto ripple feature. I find it useful to place "markers" on the time line. I'm talking about a stack of audio and video clips that needs to stay aligned. I place them on strategic placed on the time line and check them now and again. If they become misaligned I press ctrl-z and repeat the edit. Most of the time I should have held the shift key before making the change. But sometimes videopad just screws with you. So you better keep an eye on things, and save often, and to different file names so you can rollback. -
resolved Videopad never stops processing audio - UPDATED
Uberprutser replied to LJW's topic in VideoPad
Videopad can be rather busy in the background. What exactly does "usually a video to computer file" mean? What is your hardware and what is the resolution you are working on? If you just cleared out the videopad cache it can take a long time for the audio working again. I have had to wait well over an hour on a project to become "editable" again. (1080p video) And I'm using a 6th generation i7 processor. But on older hardware it will probably seem like forever.- 8 replies

If you use the option "backup project files to a folder" the resulting backup seem to be using relative paths. Meaning, you can copy the backup to anywhere. Open the included .vpj file and it all works. (using relative paths for project files by default would be a nice feature)

Perhaps there is an issue with your disk drive. In my experience the disk drive performance had a big influence on the cache file generating in videopad, especially with bigger projects. I can really bug down vp.

As usual a video to report on he video editor issue. I find this ironic https://youtu.be/DjWX2mGySlE
