    bgsend file?

does anybody know the exact function of the bgsend file in the dialdictate folder? It seems to log all saved dictations, but I'm not sure.
  2. This is just a shot, but does it work better in win98? I have 2 people using it in win98, and they're not reporting any problems. Ther's always linux and WINE....

    Sound Quality

it could also be a sample rate problem with your soundcard. I have seen some soundcards that are very unhappy playing back 8khz sample rate. If you have a cheapo sound card, that could be the problem. Most of the old or new soundblaster cards work well, and are recognized by windows without installing drivers. A workaround is to convert the samplerate with a sound editing program. Audacity would probably do it, but I haven't tried it to be sure. Cool Edit would certainly do it, but many people don't have that, and it costs.

    Dial Dictate

If you can use the direct email send instead of mapi, it might work better, as long as you have a real isp, not one of those annoying ones that block ports. I have tried to use it with AOL email, but it just doesn't work. I even tried pulling the files to Express Delegate and setting smtp to AOL through that, but it still didn't work. The only email client that I have seen to work reasonably well is (ugh!) outlook express. It does prompt for user intervention ("such and such program is trying to send mail. are you ok with this"), but you can write a quick macros script to click on that window automatically when it come up. You could always try ftp instead of email. Hope this helps. -mike
  5. I've seen this same thing happen also. I have the record menu key assignments set to behave similar to a dictaphone system, and it started doing the same thing as you stated above. I had the # key set to send, and when it was pressed, it would say "dictation deleted". My issue turned out to be a disk space issue. If it doesn't record any dictation for any reason, the send key will reply that the dictation has been deleted. Test it by doing the simulator and turning off the mic in your pc, then hitting the send key. you will probably get the "dictation deleted" message. Low system resources, as mentioned by Roy Lupton, can also cause this type of problem. My particualr setup is running win2k on a P233, and it tends to lag if it gets overloaded. I hope this helps.
  6. I need to set up a DialDictate box to send automatic email over a dsl connection, but the person I'm setting it up for has AOL, and they require secure smtp with a specific port number. I can see how to set up the login name and password, but there's no mention of how to set a specific port number. Any ideas?
  7. you have to purchase additional licenses for each user.
